Some Within Warriors 'Annoyed' By Andrew Wiggins' Conditioning Entering Season

Nov 28, 2023 3:40 PM

Andrew Wiggins entered the season out of shape, sources tell ESPN's Kendra Andrews. Wiggins returned to the Warriors last season for the playoffs after missing two months over an undisclosed personal matter.

A team source also told ESPN that some within the Warriors were annoyed by his lack of physical conditioning.

Wiggins has started the season slow and ranks last in effective field goal percentage on jumpers among players with at least 75 attempts.

The Warriors and Wiggins signed a four-year extension worth $109 million before the 22-23 season as he was coming off an excellent playoff run leading to their 2022 championship.

Warriors Will Continue To Back Draymond Green 'No Matter What He Does'

Nov 28, 2023 3:34 PM

The Golden State Warriors will continue to back Draymond Green "no matter what he does," a source told Kendra Andrews of ESPN.

Another source said the Warriors lost leverage with Green after they decided not to discipline him after punching Jordan Poole. A source also said that the tolerance in which the Warriors have shown with Green could change once he is no longer an effective player.

Green apologized to the Warriors for the incident with Rudy Gobert, which led to a five-game suspension.

The Warriors re-signed Green this past offseason to a four-year, $100 million contract.

Klay Thompson's contract negotations with the Golden State Warriors are weighing on him, sources tell Kendra Andrews of ESPN. Thompson will be a free agent this offseason if he and the Warriors don't agree to an extension. Thompson was last a free agent in 2019.

Thompson has been in a slump to start this season though he was in a similar state last season.

The Warriors and Thompson were reportedly far apart on extension talks as recently as October.

Draymond Green Has No Regrets From Headlock On Rudy Gobert

Nov 26, 2023 7:32 PM

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has completed his five-game suspension for putting Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a headlock. Green was adamant that he'll always have his teammates' backs in a situation like that.

"I don't live my life with regrets," Green said after practice, the first time he has spoken to reporters since his suspension. "I'll come to a teammate's defense any time that I'm in a position to come to a teammate's defense. ... What matters to me is how the people that I care about feel, first and foremost. How are the people that I care about affected? How are the people I care about, what do they have to deal with? That's it for me."

Green said that after talking with Warriors coach Steve Kerr and general manager Mike Dunleavy, that he's not going to change who he is.

"The consensus amongst all of us is that I'm going to be me no matter what. That's not going to change," Green said. "But in saying that, there's always a better way that something can be done. So it's figuring out a better way. That's the consensus among all of us."

Green also said he shouldn't continue to be punished for prior transgressions. He feels that the NBA shouldn't be taking that into account with current and future incidents.

"To continue mentioning, 'Oh, well, he did this in the past,' I paid for those," Green said. "I got suspended in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. You can't keep suspending me for those actions."

Chris Paul On Ejection By Scott Foster: It's Personal

Nov 23, 2023 9:19 AM

Chris Paul was ejected by Scott Foster on Wednesday night. It was another in a long list of incidents between Paul and Foster. Postgame, Paul said Foster has made it personal.

"It's personal," Paul said. "We had a situation some years ago and it's personal. The league knows. Everybody knows. There was a meeting and all of that. ... I'm OK with a ref saying whatever they're saying, but don't use a tech to get your point across."

In a postgame pool report, Foster said Paul was issued each technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct. It was the seventh ejection in Paul's career.

Multiple current and former players called out Foster's behavior towards Paul. Many referenced that the two have had issues for years and encouraged the NBA to step in and take action. For Paul's part, he knows he has to avoid letting Foster rile him, especially in an important game.

"I've got to do a better job at staying there for my teammates, but it is what it is," Paul said. "I'll probably see [Foster] in a Game 7 sometime soon."

Draymond Green Apologizes, Shows Contrition Following Ejection Against Wolves

Nov 17, 2023 11:57 PM

Draymond Green reportedly apologized to his Golden State Warriors teammates and displayed contrition after getting ejected against the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this week.

Green, who was suspended five games for grabbing Rudy Gobert by the neck, said that he wanted to protect his teammate but took it too far.

Steve Kerr admitted that Green deserved his five-game suspension.

“He helps us make adjustments a lot. When things aren’t going right, he’s one of the best basketball minds in the league. So he’s seeing things and he’s able to adapt and tell coach, ‘We should do this instead’ and we adjust. He makes things happen like that. Or he can just do it all himself on the court where he sees things happen. He cleans up a lot of mistakes. I think we missed that a lot from him. And he pushes the pace. When things aren’t going right, we can’t score, he pushes (it) and gets guys open shots and different guys good looks," said Kevon Looney on Thursday about what the team will miss without Green.

The Warriors are currently on a five-game losing streak.

Steve Kerr: Draymond Green 'Took It Too Far', 'Five Games Are Deserved'

Nov 16, 2023 9:53 PM

While Steve Kerr defended Draymond Green in his postgame comments after he was ejected for grabbing Rudy Gobert by the neck, the longtime Golden State Warriors coach walked back his comments on Thursday in response to the NBA's decision to suspend Green for five games.

"He took it too far," Kerr said ahead of the Warriors' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. "Draymond was wrong. He knows that. It's a bad look, and the five games are deserved."

The altercation between the Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves began with Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels. Gobert separated Thompson from McDaniels before Green grabbed Gobert to get him off Thompson.

"I don't have a problem with [Green] trying to get Rudy off of Klay ... but he's got to let go," Kerr said. "He hung on for six, seven seconds. It was a terrible visual for the league, for Draymond and for everybody."
