Joe Lacob Wants Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson To Retire With Warriors

Jul 15, 2023 6:20 PM

The Golden State Warriors are keenly aware that their core is aging. But Warriors owner Joe Lacob feels his team has plenty left in the tank.

“We can be good for several years, not just one, but we definitely want to win,” Lacob said. “We’re doing everything we can. We’re gonna have a huge payroll this year, the biggest in the history of the NBA, and we’re trying to win. I can’t try any harder, we’re trying everything we can.”

When the time does come for Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson to finish their careers, Lacob said he hopes it happens in Golden State uniforms.

“Certainly, we’d like Steph, Draymond and Klay to retire as Warriors,” Lacob said. “That is my goal, our goal, and I think it’s a good likelihood that’ll happen.”

Warriors To Keep Open Roster Spot For Potential Offseason Buyout Candidates

Jul 12, 2023 11:47 AM

The Golden State Warriors are likely to keep their 14th roster spot open as the remainder of the offseason plays out, sources tell Anthony Slater of The Athletic

The extra flexibility would allow the Warriors to make a trade if something unexpectedly materializes, or they could sign a player that suddenly becomes available such as Rudy Gay.

Gay has $6.5 million remaining on his expiring contract and is on an Oklahoma City Thunder that is overcommitted on guaranteed roster spots. The Warriors have had interest in Gay in the past.

Golden State similarly added JaMychal Green and Ty Jerome late in the 2022 offseason.

If no player materializes for that spot, they could then use it on a non-guaranteed training camp invite. Lester Quinones is a leading candidate for the spot.

Chris Paul Hasn't Discussed Role On Warriors With Steve Kerr

Jul 10, 2023 11:04 AM

Chris Paul has yet to discuss his anticipated role with Steve Kerr for this coming season with the Golden State Warriors with Steve Kerr. Paul has only been a starter throughout his career and it is unclear if he might come off the bench.

"At the end of the day, it's basketball," Paul said. "I'm going into a situation with a bunch of guys who've been playing together for a long time. I'm not as worried about it as everybody else is. ... We'll figure all of that stuff out at camp."

He continued: "You don't have the answers right now. We'll practice, and I'm sure there will be things I've got to learn about them, they've got to learn about me, but that's the case with any team."

Paul doesn't view his stint with Golden State as a final curtain -- "no question," he said.

"This is a sport. This is fun. It's a job, but I get to play basketball every day and say that's my way of life. ... I wouldn't spend this time training and playing and hooping, the time away from my family if I didn't love it the way I do. That's not going to change."
