Kevin Martin denied a report that said he was unhappy in his situation with Houston.

“I’m still in a great situation,” Martin said. “I’m still on a good team. I’m still helping the team win.”

Martin read a report indicating that it is an open secret he is not happy.

“I think it’s an inappropriate article,” Martin said. “A writer must be starving for attention. He’s not going to bring a distraction around our team. I’m the team’s leading scorer, and we’re in the playoff hunt. I don’t understand how I could not be happy about that. Basically, he’s just making it up.

“Individually and team-wise, we’re doing pretty well.”

The Rockets have called up Marcus Morris from the D-League.

Kevin McHale has been struggling to give enough minutes to the other players at forward in the rotation.

Kevin McHale talked with Kevin Martin late Tuesday, just hours after Martin expressed disappointment with his lack of shots and playing time in a loss to the Grizzlies.

“I talked to Kevin last night,” McHale said. “He said the same thing (that he said after the game.) I said, ‘Kev, we have to do a better job to try to get you going, but you have to do a good job of getting yourself going, too. I did it for a lot of years. It’s incumbent on you to go out there and get yourself going.’

“I said, ‘Kevin, a couple games you didn’t shoot the ball well, that didn’t bother me. Not getting shots, not being involved, that bothers me.’ We have to keep him involved. He has to be aggressive, go out there and play hard. Make it come your way. The other team is trying to not let things go your way. You have to go out there and force your way, and make it go your way.”

Martin played 38 minutes and scored 32 points in a 96-95 win over the Rockets on Wednesday night.

Iman Shumpert, Paul George, Chase Budinger and Derrick Williams will participate in the 2012 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Shumpert and Williams are rookies, while George is in his second season and Budinger is in his third season.

Kevin Martin had his first scoreless game as a starter in a 93-83 loss to the Grizzlies on Tuesday. Martin attempted three shots in just 19 minutes of action, but would not say that he should be more of a focal point of the offense.

“I don’t need plays for me to get going," Martin said. "I’ve been successful in my career just getting in the flow of the game. I’m over there chilling. It is what it is at the moment.”

Martin’s frustration was more about getting benched.

“Sometimes, it’s nothing about the number of shots,” Martin said. “It seems like a lot of things have changed in the past two weeks.

“If we’re winning and I’m sitting, I’m happy. Tonight, we got beat and I’m on a 10-day contract leash. I’m not happy about that just because we lost. If we’re winning, I’ll sit over there for 48 minutes.”

The Rockets still are interested in acquiring Pau Gasol and they would likely be willing to trade Kevin Martin and Luis Scola, according to sources.

But the Lakers are unlikely to move Gasol without acquiring a point guard back in return and Houston isn't interested in trading Kyle Lowry.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey acknowledged he made a mistake by cutting Jeremy Lin.

"We should have kept (Lin)," Morey said via Twitter. "Did not know he was this good. Anyone who says they knew misleading (you)."

The Rockets, with Kyle Lowry, Goran Dragic, and Johnny Flynn already on the roster, had a logjam at the point guard position.

"He is a very good player but Linsanity was not happening here this year," Morey said.

The Houston Rockets have assigned center Greg Smith to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets’ NBA Development League affiliate. 

Announced on Wednesday as a 2012 NBA D-League All-Star, Smith has appeared in 18 games for the Vipers this season, averaging 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in 28.3 minutes.

The Rockets have waived Jeff Adrien.

Adrien was on a non-guaranteed contract and had to be moved to make room to sign Greg Smith.

The Rockets will sign Greg Smith from the D-League. Smith is averaging 16.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Smith had been receiving interest from around the NBA as a young center prospect with significant upside.

Smith was waived by the Rockets prior to the start of the season. He is expected to sign a multi-year deal.
