Dwight Howard Fires Dan Fegan As Agent

Feb 27, 2016 1:41 PM

Dwight Howard has fired his longtime agent Dan Fegan of Relativity Sports.

"As I continue to embark on my NBA journey, I have decided to sever my relationship with Dan Fegan and Relativity Sports," Howard said in a statement provided to ESPN and USA Today Sports. "I have the utmost respect for Dan, but this is the right decision for me. My sole focus remains working with my teammates to position the Rockets for a pursuit of a championship. I wish Dan and the team at Relativity all the best in the future."

Howard said he currently does not have an agent.

Howard will likely opt for free agency in the offseason.

Fegan also was reportedly fired by John Wall last month and DeAndre Jordan last summer.

Howard elaborated on the decision on Saturday.

"Just really been since I went to All Star break in Sedona (Ariz.) I've been spending time thinking and just trying to figure out what I can do to better myself and better my situation," Howard said. "It was nothing against my agent. It wasn't anything bad that he did to me. Sometimes, change is good. I just made a decision based on what I feel I needed to change.

"I always respect him and love him. We still talk now. But as far as him being my representation, I decided to go other ways."

Marcus Thornton Released By Rockets

Feb 26, 2016 6:18 PM

The Houston Rockets have waived Marcus Thornton.

Thornton saw his role with the Rockets diminish and he was even traded at the deadline in a deal with the Detroit Pistons that was later rescinded.

Thornton had not returned to the Rockets' active roster after the trade.

Thornton signed a one-year deal with Houston with hopes of increasing his value in summer free agency. Thornton averaged 10 points in 18.8 minutes a game this season.

Ty Lawson, Rockets Negotiating Buyout

Feb 26, 2016 12:53 PM

Ty Lawson and the Houston Rockets are holding contract buyout discussions.

The Rockets could use the savings on a possibly buyout to clear cap space to acquire other players.

Houston discussed trade-deadline deals on Lawson, but was unable to find a suitable trade. Lawson is still owed $3.2 million on his 2015-16 contract, having already been paid $9.2 million.

The Rockets are $524,000 under the hard salary cap.

Lawson's deal for 16-17 is non-guaranteed.

Lawson will need to agree upon a buyout by Tuesday to be eligible for the postseason.

Rockets' CEO Denies Reports Of Harden Trying To Fire McHale, Trade Howard

Feb 26, 2016 1:10 AM

The CEO of the Houston Rockets denied a report that James Harden asked for Kevin McHale to be fired as head coach and that he also did not ask Daryl Morey to trade away Dwight Howard.

"I can tell you unequivocally, being part of that [front-office] team, those things have never happened," Tad Brown said prior to the Rockets' game against the Portland Trail Blazers. "That's frustrating, and, for whatever reason, it's been a constant throughout this season. As we struggle and as we continue to struggle a little bit on the court, trying to get things to where we want them to be, that people have continued to take shots at our guys, take shots at our team, with unnamed sources being the ones who routinely provide that information."

Brown also denied an NBA.com report stating Howard and Harden asked for each other to be traded two seasons ago after Morey told ESPN the same last week.

James Harden Pushed For Rockets To Fire Kevin McHale

Feb 25, 2016 5:04 PM

James Harden pushed for the Houston Rockets to fire Kevin McHale at the start of this season.

The Rockets fired McHale after a 4-7 start to the season despite reaching the Western Conference Finals last season.

Harden has since angled for the Rockets to trade away Dwight Howard.

"It's really bad for the locker room dynamic," a person familiar with the situation told CBS Sports. "If everybody knows that James Harden can fire you or trade you, are you going to pass the ball to Dwight or are you going to pass the ball to James Harden?"

Pistons Void Donatas Motiejunas Trade With Rockets

Feb 22, 2016 2:15 PM

The Detroit Pistons have voided their trade for Donatas Motiejunas with the Houston Rockets.

The Pistons traded Joel Anthony and a future first round pick for Motiejunas and Marcus Thornton.

The pick was top-8 protected.

Motiejunas will be a restricted free agent in the offseason. Motiejunas has been limited to just 14 games this season due to a back injury.

The trade also included the Philadelphia 76ers receiving Anthony. The 76ers waived JaKarr Sampson as part of the deal and he's subsequently signed with the Denver Nuggets.

Pistons Ask For More Time To Evaluate Back Injury Of Donatas Motiejunas

Feb 21, 2016 4:34 PM

The trade between the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons may be voided to the back issues of Donatas Motiejunas.

The Rockets sent Motiejunas and Marcus Thornton to the Pistons on Thursday for a protected 2016 first-round pick.

Motiejunas hasn't played since Dec. 31st as he recovers from a sore back.

The Pistons asked the NBA for an additional 24 hours of the 72-hour trade window to determine if Motiejunas can play for them.

"We'll see. If they don't give us more time, we'd have to make a decision," Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy told reporters Sunday, according to the Detroit News.

Rockets Deny Report Of Howard, Harden Trying To Get The Other Traded

Feb 19, 2016 9:20 PM

Daryl Morey denied a report that Dwight Howard and James Harden each tried to get the other player traded after the 13-14 season.

The Houston Rockets had completed their first season with Howard and Harden together, and they had cap space. The Rockets were linked to Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh that offseason.

"I hadn’t seen it, but that’s not true," said Morey.

The Rockets held trade discussions involving Howard before the deadline.

"I don’t want to get into any details of any trades; there were lots of rumors with all our players. There weren’t any close deals. I don’t love a lot of the noise that got out there, but it happens at the deadline."
