Russell Westbrook: Patrick Beverley Tricked Y'All Like He Playing Defense

Nov 14, 2019 5:04 PM

Russell Westbrook criticized the defense of Patrick Beverley after James Harden scored 47 points in the Houston Rockets' 102-93 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Westbrook and Beverley have been rivals dating back to the 2013 playoffs when the former suffered a torn meniscus when the latter collided with him after calling a timeout.

"Pat Bev trick y'all, man, like he playing defense," Westbrook said. "He don't guard nobody, man. It's just running around, doing nothing. ... All that commotion to get 47."

Westbrook celebrated Beverley's sixth foul with a mocking wave.

"Don't start that, don't start that," Beverley told ESPN as he exited the Clippers' locker room. "I don't care about that."

Chris Paul Felt 'Stabbed In The Back' When Rockets Traded Him To Thunder

Nov 13, 2019 11:44 AM

Chris Paul denied asking for a trade from the Houston Rockets after the 18-19 season amid reported tension with James Harden. The Rockets eventually traded Paul to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Russell Westbrook.

"Do you feel like there’s been times where, 'Damn, that’s a little eye-opening. I got stabbed in the back,'" asked Kevin Hart.

"Absolutely," said Paul. "This last situation was one of them. The GM there in Houston, he don’t owe me nothing. You know what I mean? He may tell me one thing but do another thing. But you just understand that that’s what it is."

Paul orchestrated a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Rockets in 2017.

Daryl Morey Has Long Been Considered 'Tenuous Fit' With Tilman Fertitta

Nov 12, 2019 10:59 AM

When Tilman Fertitta bought the Houston Rockets, he inherited the front office of Daryl Morey.

Sources tell Kevin Arnovitz of ESPN that it was "a shotgun marriage...considered a tenuous fit since Fertitta bought the team in 2017."

Morey signed a five-year contract extension in 2019. Shortly before the Rockets were sold to Fertitta by Les Alexander, they signed Morey to a four-year extension.

Morey's Tweet supporting Hong Kong led to a quick rebuke from Fertitta.

Rockets Didn't Clear Nene's Contract With NBA In Advance

Nov 11, 2019 3:43 PM

The NBA rejected a contract with Nene submitted by the Houston Rockets that it deemed a circumvention of the salary cap.

Nene's deal had bonuses worth more than $7 million that were considered likely for cap purposes, but would have been unlikely to actually convey. Houston structured the deal in order to turn Nene's contract into a trade chip.

Bobby Marks discussed the contract recently and indicated how it is routine for front offices to send the draft of a contract to the NBA before it is finalized and signed in order to make sure it will be approved. The Rockets did not do that in the case of Nene.

"Houston never sent the Nene contract for approval (in advance)," said Marks on The Hoop Collective podcast. "They basically did it, had the guy signed it and then sent it to the league for approval. That's when it went into a holding pattern for about two weeks."
