Doc Rivers: Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin Understand They Need Each Other To Win

May 29, 2015 1:51 AM

Doc Rivers denied a reported rift between Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan and believes they, along with Blake Griffin, understand their individual importance toward winning.

"I can put this to rest: They get along great," Rivers said on The Beast 980. "Clearly, like everybody, they don't get along all the time, and they don't get along with me all the time, either, by the way. I don't see that as an issue. I think all three, and I'm including Blake in this as well, understand how important the other guy is to them. Meaning, they all three need each other to win, and I think all three get that and all three know that and all three want to do it together. To me, that's the most important thing."

Rivers has already said the Clippers will offer Jordan a max contract of five years for $108.7 million.

Clippers Want To Re-Sign Austin Rivers

May 18, 2015 3:03 PM

Doc Rivers appears to want the Los Angeles Clippers to re-sign Austin Rivers.

Austin Rivers is a former lottery pick that had struggled in his first two and a half seasons in the NBA, but showed some glimpses of potential in the playoffs.

"You've got to give (Paul) just some more support, you know?" Rivers told USA TODAY Sports. "I think bringing (his son) Austin (Rivers) here (in mid-January) helped us. We've got a 22-year-old (in Austin), and now to me we've got to get another guard who's in the middle age group. So now you're growing with Austin and CJ (Wilcox), and we need another defensive guy too."

Doc Rivers had additional comments on Austin Rivers' free agency on Monday.

"He's young and clearly helped us, we all have to agree with that. I think he loved it here. He even liked the coach at times."

Clippers Interested In Wesley Johnson

May 18, 2015 11:36 AM

The Los Angeles Clippers have interest in Wesley Johnson in free agency, according to sources.

Johnson has spent the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and is a former lottery pick.

The Clippers lacked depth on the wing and their trade of Jared Dudley to create space to sign Spencer Hawes appeared to backfire.

Rivers: DeAndre Jordan Loves Being A Clipper

May 18, 2015 3:04 PM

DeAndre Jordan will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and figures to draw considerable interest.

"You can't take anything for granted, but DJ loves being a Clipper," Doc Rivers told Yahoo. "DJ loves being here. We have an amazing relationship."

The Los Angeles Clippers will almost certainly need to offer Jordan a five-year, $100 million deal to retain him.

Assuming Jordan re-signs, the Clippers will have three players on max contracts, making their ability to add a significant piece considerably difficult.

Bill Reiter of Fox Sports reports that Jordan and Chris Paul had a falling out throughout the 14-15 season that could factor into Jordan's free agency decision.

On Monday, Rivers confirmed they will offer Jordan a max contract.

"Yeah, I think I can say that."

Clippers Plan To Improve Supporting Cast With Minimum Salary Players

May 18, 2015 1:21 AM

The Los Angeles Clippers will not have significant salary cap space, as the team plans to re-sign DeAndre Jordan.

If the Clippers sign Jordan to a five-year maximum deal, they will only have the so-called mini-mid-level exception of $3.37 million per year for up to three years plus a slew of veteran's minimum contracts.

"We have to get this team more support," Rivers said. "With the contracts we're hamstrung with, it's going to be minimum deals for the most part. There are no big deals out there that we're going to make, most likely."
