Isiah Allegedly Asked Dancer To Flirt With Refs

Jun 30, 2007 12:20 PM

The former Knicks executive who is suing Isiah Thomas for sexual harassment alleged in court papers that Thomas urged a cheerleader to flirt with referees and guard Stephon Marbury cursed at her, according to newspaper reports Saturday.

Anucha Browne Sanders, a former senior vice president of marketing and business operations, filed documents to answer the Knicks' attempt to have her lawsuit dismissed.

In the papers, which were unsealed Friday, Browne Sanders alleges cheerleader Petra Pope told her that Thomas encouraged Pope to flirt with officials before a game against the Nets in 2004, the Daily News reported.

"What she told me was that Isiah asked her to go into the referees' locker room and make them happy," Browne Sanders testified.

She also claimed in the documents that Marbury directed an obscenity at her after she complained about the player's cousin -- who was also employed by the team -- had made graphic sexual comments to her staff, the Daily News reported.

Monday Press Conference For New Knicks

Jun 29, 2007 3:04 PM

The Knicks have announced a Monday, 4:00 PM EDT press conference at the team's Madison Square Garden Training Center in Greenburgh, New York.

Isiah Thomas will present Zach Randolph as the newest Knick acquisition.  Randolph was acquired in a draft-day deal in exchange for Channing Frye and Steve Francis.

The Knicks' press release indicates that Dan Dickau and Fred Jones will also be in attendance on Monday, which may mean that the team has no immediate plan to release or otherwise rid itself of either player.

Isiah Talks About Draft-Day Deal

Jun 29, 2007 12:45 PM

Mike Dougherty of the Journal News reports on the conference call with Isiah Thomas in which he discussed his draft-day trade to acquire Zach Randolph.  The full text with Dougherty's commentary can be accessed by the link below.

Q: How do you balance the obvious talent Randolph possesses with the questionable character?

A: "We?ll address those issues if they arise. I look at him when he comes here, it?s a clean slate. I?ve heard it mentioned that New York is this bad place and I?d like to take a moment and defend New York because this is not the place people come to and automatically get in trouble .... I?m looking forward to coaching him."

Q: How is Randolph going to fit in alongside Eddy Curry?

A: "It?s safe to say the ball will be in one of their hands most every time down the court. We?ll throw the ball inside. Either it?ll be in Eddy?s hands on one side or it will be in Zach?s on the other. The thing that?s intriguing thing about Zach is he can step out and he has a great mid-range game so he can hit the midrange shot. He?s a good passer out of double teams. We got 3-point shooters that can really knock down 3s. Offensively, we?ll have a well-balanced attack. The thing we?ve got to do better at on the defensive side is defending the 3-point line, which we?ll be better at."

Q: Did you need to run this by Knicks owner James Dolan first?

A: "We have to run by and sell everything to our owner. Everything that we do, we run past Jim and we have to get it OK?d by him before we can go and do anything, so he was definitely in the loop. With Zach, I like that player, I like what we?re getting. I?ve had a lot of success with players in this league, and I believe in him as a player. He?s made some mistakes as a young man, but I think we can get him on the right path here and he?ll be fine."

Q: You were going to have cap space in two years, but adding Randolph prevents that, why the change?

A: "The player that we have now is a young player. I think as time progresses, we have the player now as opposed to having him three to four years from now. We have an opportunity to better ourselves and be good right now and I do think the better players in the league want to play with other good players and play for good teams."

Randolph To Knicks For Francis, Frye

Jun 29, 2007 12:22 AM

The Knicks and Trail Blazers reached agreement on a deal that swaps forward Zach Randolph and teammates Dan Dickau and Fred Jones, as well as the draft rights to Demetris Nichols for guard Steve Francis, Channing Frye and the Knicks' 2008 second round pick.

Francis has only two seasons left on his contract, worth just over $34 million, but possesses the option to become a free agent after next season. The Blazers, however, are planning to buy out Francis' contract and make him a free agent this summer, sources said.

Knicks & Blazers In "Advanced Discussions" On Randolph

Jun 28, 2007 7:38 PM

The Knicks and Trail Blazers were in "advanced discussions" on Thursday in a trade that would land Zach Randolph in New York.

The Knicks are said to be offering Channing Frye and Steve Francis.

The Blazers may prefer to bring back Malik Rose in the deal which would be possible in July.  The trade does not need to be completed on draft day because no picks are involved.

If Francis is the other player, another Blazer would need to be included in the trade to make it work under the salary cap.

Nets Pursue Jermaine O'Neal, Knicks Chase Zach Randolph

Jun 28, 2007 6:14 PM

As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo, multiple league sources are saying that the Nets have made an offer of Richard Jefferson, Nenad Krstic and Jason Collins to the Pacers for Jermaine O'Neal.  There are no picks involved so the deal can wait until July.

The Trail Blazers and Knicks are having "serious discussions" about a trade that would send Zach Randolph and Martell Webster to the Knicks for Steve Francis and Channing Frye.  The parties have exchanged variations on the deal but all combinations would result in Randolph heading to New York.  It is unclear whether there are picks involved so this too may be a deal that can be consummated after the draft.

The Washington Wizards are taking a serious look at Italian guard Marco Belinelli as their choice for the 16th pick.

Sean Williams, the controversial big man who was dismissed from his Boston College club, may be the Nets' selection at number 17.

Isiah Wants A Big Deal Or Nothing At All

Jun 27, 2007 11:57 PM

Isiah Thomas has weighed options for acquiring another first-round pick and is said to be shopping Jared Jeffries while "paying very close attention to the Kevin Garnett/Jermaine O'Neal situations."

It is also believed that Thomas has decided to "either do something big or nothing at all" before next season.

Acquiring Rashard Lewis by sign-and-trade would seem to be the most likely way the Knicks can make a significant off-season impact.

Will Knicks Draft Green As Future Point Guard?

Jun 27, 2007 11:47 PM

There is speculation that Isiah Thomas will try to find the future point guard of the Knicks in Thursday's draft and may have his sights set on 6-foot tall Taurean Green.  Green is a junior from Florida, raised in New York, and the son of former Knick Sidney Green.

Thomas has been praising Green publicly and Green said Thomas "loved the way I played" at the pre-draft camp in Orlando.

"I feel he can complement what they are trying to do," Sidney Green said of his son concerning the Knicks' re-building plan.

Green would be the type of player Thomas could develop without giving him regular-season minutes, although he is widely regarded as a second-round pick at best.
