Aldridge Admits Extreme Frustration Last Season, Wants To Give Rebuild A Chance

Aug 31, 2013 11:22 PM

LaMarcus Aldridge admits he was extremely frustrated with last season but not to the point where he requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers.

"I wasn't ready to make a move yet," Aldridge said. "I was just frustrated in the moment. I haven't given Neil (Olshey) a chance yet."

There has been extensive speculation regarding Aldridge this offseason.

Olshey has made it clear that the Blazers do not plan to discuss trades involving Aldridge.

E.J. Singler To Join Blazers For Training Camp

Aug 31, 2013 11:19 AM

E.J. Singler will join the Portland Trail Blazers as a non-guaranteed roster camp invitee.

Singler played at Oregon and attended South Medford High School in the area.

Singler is prepared to play in the D-League instead of going overseas.

“There’s an option overseas, but the D-League is a great option, too,” Singler said in June. “A great example is Danny Green ... that’s a guy that has worked hard and made his way into the NBA after paying his dues in the D-League. It can be a good opportunity for me.”

Luke Babbitt To Sign With BC Nizhny Novgorod

Aug 28, 2013 1:09 PM

Luke Babbitt has agreed to sign a one-year deal with BC Nizhny Novgorod of Russia.

The contract does not include an NBA out clause.

“My take is Luke needs to play 30 minutes a game and play a more expanded role," agent Bill Duffy said. "We've had recent success with both Danny Green (of the San Antonio Spurs) and Patrick Beverley (of the Houston Rockets) getting an opportunity to develop their games in Europe and return to the NBA. The NBA is a league of opportunity. We feel strongly this is the best move for Luke at this time.”

Portland opted not to exercise the fourth year of Babbitt's rookie contract before the 2012-13 season began, making him an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Blazers Not Considering LaMarcus Aldridge Trade

Aug 27, 2013 11:39 AM

LaMarcus Aldridge has been mentioned in trade rumors throughout the offseason, but Neil Olshey and the Portland Trail Blazers have resisted overtures.

"It's not on our mind and it's not on his, either," said Olshey. "LaMarcus just wants to win. He wants to win tomorrow night. He doesn't want to hear about having cap room two years from now."

Aldridge is already 28 and he'll become a free agent in 2015.

Olshey: Paul Allen Has Never Wanted Blazers To Do Full Rebuild

Aug 27, 2013 11:36 AM

With injuries to Brandon Roy and Greg Oden that ended their tenures with the Portland Trail Blazers, the franchise has remained a fringe playoff team.

Damian Lillard was the NBA's Rookie of the Year last season and the Blazers have resisted trading LaMarcus Aldridge for younger players.

"Paul Allen has never wanted to rebuild," says Neil Olshey. "He does not want to take three steps backward in order to take four steps forward. So we decided we were just going to have one foot in, and one foot out."

Aldridge is now 28, while Nicolas Batum is 25 and Lillard is 23.

"Something like 45 wins is OK with a young roster, starting a bunch of rookie scale guys, and when you have all this cap room in 2015," Olshey said. "But if you're capped out with no flexibility, hovering around 45 wins? That's not acceptable."

Dorell Wright Comfortable With Role As Bench Scorer

Aug 25, 2013 10:15 AM

Dorell Wright believes he will compete for a starting spot on the Portland Trail Blazers, but he admits a role as a sharpshooter off the bench is more probable and could further help the team.

"I know what I can do. I know what I can bring," Wright said. "But I see myself as a guy who comes in off the bench; knocking down threes, being a stretch-four."

Wright feels chemistry will be a major key for the Blazers.

"When you're coming off the bench, you gotta be ready right away, you gotta have 2-3 heat packs on your legs and be ready at all times," he said. "You gotta be ready, you always gotta be ready."

Batum Believes Aldridge Wants To Stay With Blazers, Desires Improvement

Aug 22, 2013 11:38 PM

Nicolas Batum believes LaMarcus Aldridge remains the Portland Trail Blazers' go-to guy and franchise player, and he believes that the All-Star forward wants to stay with the team as it improves.

"I heard that too and I laughed when I read that," Batum said of speculation involving Aldridge this offseason. "He doesn't want to get traded, he wants the team to get better. LaMarcus is a winner.

"I know that's what he wants. We had two bad seasons and missed the playoffs and wants the team to improve. I think he didn't ask for a trade. He wants to stay and win with the Blazers. He just wants a better team around him so we can get back to the playoffs."

Aldridge and the Blazers have refuted that he requested a trade from the organization.

Damian Lillard Wants To Stay Fresh With Fewer Minutes

Aug 21, 2013 12:44 PM

Damian Lillard led the NBA in minutes played last season and conceded his body and game paid the consequences, hoping next year he can stay more fresh down the stretch.

"Sometimes when you're out there (playing) so many minutes, your body can wear down," Lillard said. "So you're not always productive at the highest levels because you might be worn down."

Lillard has endorsed the Portland Trail Blazers' moves this offseason, adding depth to the bench.

"I think I can be more productive than I was," Lillard said.

Thomas Robinson Plans To Focus On Rebounding Next Season

Aug 19, 2013 11:52 PM

Thomas Robinson averaged 17.7 points and 11.9 rebounds during his final season at Kansas, leading the Jayhawks to the Final Four before becoming the No. 5 overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft.

However Robinson struggled to live up to expectations during his rookie season, averaging just 4.8 points and 4.5 boards in 70 games for the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets.

“I talked to (KU) coach Self a couple times this year, more than a couple actually,” Robinson said. “He constantly told me the same thing he told me when I struggled before my junior year — just be a rebounder. That’s what I’m going to do.”

Robinson crashed the boards at the Las Vegas Summer League last month, averaging 12.8 rebounds (third-best mark in league) and 10.4 points while appearing in five games for Portland.

“I think he (now) realizes who he is. He is a rebounder who can score as opposed to a scorer who can rebound,” Self said. “If he can just worry about the things he can control, he’ll become an even better shooter.”
