Wesley Matthews 'Felt Disrespected' By Lack Of Interest From Blazers

Jul 30, 2015 7:11 PM

The Portland Trail Blazers never made an offer to Wesley Matthews in free agency.

Matthews signed with the Blazers in 2010 and became one of the NBA's best two-way shooting guards. But Matthews ruptured his left Achilles tendon in March.

"I was pissed off," Matthews said. "I felt disrespected."

The only change the Blazers would pursue re-signing Matthews was if LaMarcus Aldridge also committed to remain with the franchise.

"I was angry," Matthews said, "but I also realize that this is a business."

Before free agency, Matthews said he was worth $15 million per season and then he watched DeMarre Carroll and Khris Middleton receive that type of money.

"No knock on them, but I'm taking me 10 times out of 10 over them," Matthews said. "There was a time when I was undeniable in the NBA; you could not deny me. Everything that happened to me before, I was able to get to this point because of my passion, my motive."

Cavs Trade Brendan Haywood, Mike Miller To Blazers

Jul 26, 2015 11:14 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded Brendan Haywood and Mike Miller to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Haywood's contract is non-guaranteed for the 15-16 season at $10.5 million.

Portland will receive second round picks from the Cavaliers in 2019 and 2020.

The Cavaliers were unable to find a suitable trade using Haywood's contract and will instead have two traded player exception that can be used later in the amounts of $10.5 million and $2.85 million.

Trading away Miller could save the Cavaliers as much as $10 million in salary in luxury taxes.

Cavs Likely To Settle For TPE In Exchange For Haywood's Contract

Jul 23, 2015 6:03 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers hope to soon trade Brendan Haywood for a traded player exception.

The Cavaliers have shopped the non-guaranteed contract of Haywood around the NBA, including talks with the Brooklyn Nets on Joe Johnson. They haven't been able to find a deal to their liking and could instead trade Haywood for a traded player exception.

The Cavs used a trade exception they created last summer to trade for Timofey Mozgov during last season.

The Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers are the only teams currently with enough cap space to absorb Haywood and create a trade exception for Cleveland. The Cavs might need to surrender a draft pick to create the incentive for either team to help the Cavaliers with the TPE.
