Spurs To Keep Austin Daye, Guarantee His Deal For 14-15

Jun 30, 2014 9:46 PM

The San Antonio Spurs will keep forward Austin Daye beyond Monday’s contract guarantee deadline, a league source told RealGM.

Acquired in a trade in February, Daye, 26, averaged 4.1 points and 1.4 rebounds in 14 games for the Spurs.

The Spurs faced deadline on Daye’s contract, and they could have released his partially guaranteed deal by Monday night.

Daye has averaged 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds over five NBA seasons. He was a first round pick of the Detroit Pistons in 2009. Yahoo Sports first reported that the Spurs were not expected to release Daye.

Gregg Popovich Plans To Continue Coaching, But Tim Duncan Undecided On Future

Jun 15, 2014 12:34 PM

Although Gregg Popovich wants to continue coaching the San Antonio Spurs into next season, Tim Duncan is undecided on his future with one season left on his contract.

Popovich, 65, still believes he has the energy and interest in coaching. Popovich was recently awarded his third NBA Coach of the Year.

“I don’t feel tired,” Popovich said. “I mean, I’m tired today, but I mean in general. I’d like to continue to coach (beyond this year).”

Duncan has until June 24 to notify the Spurs about his contract plans, according to an ESPN report.

“I don’t have any plans on doing anything,” Duncan said. “I’m going to figure it out when it comes. I’m not saying I’m retiring. I’m not saying I’m not retiring. I’m not saying anything. I’m going to figure it out as it goes. I’ve always said if I feel like I’m effective, if I feel like I can contribute, I’ll continue to play.

“Right now I feel that way, so we’ll see what happens. Whatever people are saying or who has insight on whatever, they’re getting it from somewhere else because I haven’t told anybody anything nor have I thought about it in any respect.”

Duncan's teammates hope for the star big man to return.

“I know he’s got one more year on his contract, and he loves being with us, loves playing basketball,” Tony Parker said. “Either way, whatever he decides, I’ll support him. But if I have to choose, obviously, I would love him to keep going. I love playing with him.”
