Jazz Extend Qualifying Offer To Matthews, Fesenko

Jun 29, 2010 12:13 AM

Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O?Connor announced today that the team has tendered qualifying offers to center Kyrylo Fesenko and guard Wesley Matthews.  Per team policy, financial terms were not released.

In accordance with the league?s collective bargaining agreement, in order for a team to retain its right of first refusal with respect to a restricted free agent, the team must tender the player a qualifying offer by June 30.  A restricted free agent may sign an offer sheet with any team, but is subject to a right of first refusal with the team for which the player last played.

Jazz Considering Use Of $6.5M TPE

Jun 26, 2010 11:20 AM

Kevin O?Connor noted that the Jazz could acquire a player making up to $6.5 million through the trade exception they obtained from sending Matt Harpring to Oklahoma City. The Jazz also are owed a future first-round draft pick from Memphis as part of the Ronnie Brewer deal.

?We?ll have to involve ourselves in trying to do a lot of things,? O?Connor said. ?But you?ve got to be creative a little bit with things. That?s why we have some assets.?

The Jazz also are open to a sign-and-trade with Carlos Boozer, which could create a future TPE and not impact their salary cap depending on what comes back in return.

Keeping Boozer Remains Utah's Top Offseason Priority

Jun 26, 2010 11:15 AM

Jazz GM Kevin O?Connor said talking with Carlos Boozer would be ?absolutely? the top priority when free agency opens. Although the Jazz matched a four-year, $32 million offer sheet to keep Paul Millsap last summer, O?Connor said the team remains interested in re-signing Boozer.

?They?ve played awful well together,? O?Connor said, adding that he appreciates all the matchup problems created by the Lakers? towering frontcourt of Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom.

Utah will have competition from teams with maximum cap space.

Jazz Looking For Another First-Round Pick

Jun 20, 2010 7:30 PM

The Jazz may be trying to trade for another first-round pick in Thursday's NBA Draft.

Utah has worked out South Florida combo guard Dominique Jones. However, he isn't expected to be taken when the Jazz use the 9th or 55th pick.

"I heard a rumor they might be getting around a 20-some pick," Jones said.

"We, as a staff, try to be prepared for everything," said Jazz player personnel vice president Walt Perrin.

"If come draft day somebody says 'We'll give you another pick,' or 'You can buy another pick,' or 'You can trade for another pick' ? move down or whatever ? we have to be prepared for that."
