Alec Burks, Jazz Agree Upon Four-Year, $42M Extension

The Utah Jazz and Alec Burks have reached agreement on a four-year, $42 million contract extension.

Burks' deal could climb to $45 million with reachable incentive clauses.

Burks, 23, is the third young Jazz player, along with Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors, to reach a four-year new contract with the franchise.

Burks has developed into one of the NBA's better young shooting guards.

Enes Kanter, Jazz Break Off Extension Talks

Enes Kanter and the Utah Jazz have broken off talks on a contract extension.

Kanter will become a restricted free agent in the 2015 offseason.

“We have mutually agreed with Utah to concentrate on the season and look at our options again in the summer,” agent Max Ergul said in a telephone interview. “Enes likes Utah and the organization very much, and now he can concentrate on continuing to grow as a player and helping them win.”

The Jazz are still engaged in discussions with shooting guard Alec Burks, who is also eligible for a rookie extension before Friday night’s deadline.

Jazz Waive Dahntay Jones, Jack Cooley

The Utah Jazz have waived forward Jack Cooley and guard Dahntay Jones. 

Following the moves, Utah’s roster now stands at 15 players. 

Cooley (6-9, 246, Notre Dame) appeared in two preseason games for Utah, averaging 3.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 5.8 minutes of action. He was signed as a free agent on Aug. 19. 

Jones (6-6, 225, Duke) saw action in six preseason games for the Jazz, averaging 3.2 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 11.8 minutes of play. He was signed on Sept. 25.

The Utah Jazz have waived guards Dee Bost and Kevin Murphy. 

Following the moves, Utah’s roster now stands at 17 players. 

Bost (6-2, 176, Mississippi State) did not see action for the Jazz, while Murphy (6-5, 200, Tennessee Tech) appeared in one preseason game for Utah, totaling four points, one rebound and an assist in five minutes of action. Bost was signed as a free agent on August 15, while Murphy was added on August 27.
