Remember those NBA referees who were cashing in their first class tickets for cheaper fares and pocketing the difference?  If you wonder what happened to them, you should read the story in the Boston Globe about one of them, Ken Mauer.  Mauer paid a steep price for his part in the scam but what you may not know is that the practice was widespread and actually a part of the referees contract with the NBA.  Mauer was one of only two referees who fought this case and the only one who suffered for his decision.  Mauer is now back in the NBA but you have to wonder if he had it to do all over again whether he would endure the pain his fight caused him.
