Tim Povtak of the Orlando Sentinel reports: The Orlando Magic had a strong interest in Golden State center Marc Jackson during the off-season, when he was a restricted free agent. And they have expressed a similar interest in trading for him now, hoping that he could solve their frontcourt problems.

Because of league rules, Jackson can't be traded until Jan. 15, but the Magic aren't waiting that long to start talking to the Warriors.

"My understanding is that Orlando is very interested again," Jackson said before Saturday night's game. "And I'd love to come here. This is a team I could help, and it's a team with a lot of potential. They could use me."

Magic General Manager John Gabriel downplayed the possibility of a trade later this month, but he admitted interest. He said the teams had not even talked about whom the Warriors wanted in return.

The Warriors are looking for a high draft pick this summer and are hoping to acquire a young point guard or perimeter player. The Magic are expected to offer at least one first-round draft pick and Pat Garrity. The Warriors, though, will be asking for Mike Miller, whom the Magic have been reluctant to offer in any deal.

Jackson averaged 13.2 points and 7.5 rebounds as a rookie but is hardly playing now, averaging 4.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.3 minutes.

RealGm Note: Orlando offered Jackson a contract before they signed Patrick Ewing and Horace Grant. Also, due to CBA rules, Golden State can't trade Marc Jackson without his consent for one full year from the date he signed.
