Tim Duncan gave David Robinson a fitting send-off.

Duncan returned from an ankle injury to score 16 points and grab 10 rebounds in the San Antonio Spurs' 87-78 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday night.

``It was great to get a win on his night,'' Duncan said.

The NBA champion Spurs retired Robinson's No. 50 in a postgame ceremony. He retired last summer after 14 seasons with the team.

``This is a moment you always dream of, but never think will come,'' Robinson said. ``It's overwhelming. It's awesome. ... This is my final farewell. This has been a wonderful journey.''

Duncan played 34 minutes after missing the previous three games because of a sprained left ankle.

``It felt good, it's feeling better and better,'' he said. ``Yesterday, I practiced and it felt good. I feel fine right now.''

In other NBA games Monday night, Memphis beat the Los Angeles Lakers 105-95, Cleveland topped New York 94-80, Denver held off Chicago 105-97, and Phoenix edged Golden State 99-96.

Manu Ginobili added 18 points to help the Spurs beat the Jazz for the 14th straight time.

Tony Parker, also back after missing the first seven games with a sprained left ankle, had nine points.

Matt Harpring led Utah with 11 points.

``Somebody has got to step up and play,'' Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. ``I know we're a young team, but you have to be prepared.''

Grizzlies 105, Lakers 95

At Memphis, Tenn., Shane Battier's four-point play with 1:58 left ended the Lakers' last comeback attempt, helping Memphis to a victory over turnover-prone Los Angeles.

The Lakers had turnovers on eight consecutive possessions early in the third quarter en route to their second straight loss.

Memphis' Pau Gasol had 22 points and 11 rebounds, Lorenzen Wright and Posey scored 15 apiece and Jason Williams had 10 points, eight assists and five steals. Kobe Bryant scored 19 points and Shaquille O'Neal had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Lakers.

Cavaliers 94, Knicks 80

At Cleveland, LeBron James scored 17 points _ all on jumpers _ and Chris Mihm had 19 for the Cavaliers.

The one rap on James was that he couldn't shoot from the outside, but the rookie star showed nice range in draining seven perimeter shots, including all three of his 3-point attempts.

Ricky Davis added 16 points, seven rebounds and eight assists to help the Cavs win their second straight following an 0-5 start.

Allan Houston scored 22 points for New York.

Nuggets 105, Bulls 97

At Chicago, tiny Earl Boykins came up with the biggest shot, hitting a 3-pointer with 38 seconds left to lead Denver.

Boykins finished with 14 points and nine assists, and rookie Carmelo Anthony had 26 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Eddy Curry led the Bulls with 20 points.

Suns 99, Warriors 96

At Oakland, Calif., Stephon Marbury and Joe Johnson each had 22 points in Phoenix's first road victory of the season.

Amare Stoudemire added 15 points and 18 rebounds for Phoenix. Golden State's Jason Richardson had 22 points and nine rebounds.
