Phil Jackson intended to sign George Hill if he remained president of the New York Knicks.

Hill was going to be a mentor to Frank Ntilikina, who the Knicks selected eighth overall.

Hill is friends with Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah and was interested in the Knicks. Hill ultimately signed with the Sacramento Kings instead.

Steve Mills pivoted the Knicks towards going younger while eventual Knicks' general manager Scott Perry played a role in bringing Hill to the Kings to mentor De'Aaron Fox.

The Knicks instead used their cap space on Tim Hardaway Jr., who Jackson did not have interest in signing.
