Prince Taking Recovery Slow

Nov 28, 2009 5:17 PM

Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince has been out for four weeks with a ruptured disk in his back.

There is currently no timetable for his return.

"We did not talk about it," Prince said. "Nobody has talked about it. It is a situation where they are putting me in position to feel good in consecutive days, rather than being up and down."

He took extensive shooting practice for Detroit's game on Friday, but has not scrimmaged or practiced with the team.

"Most of the stuff we are working on is moving side to side," Prince said. "Anything back and forth I am fine with. And I have not had the opportunity to go for a long period of time. I have to see when we do things like that. We are keeping it short and sweet right now. And, like you said, we are making progress."

Nov 27, 2009 7:25 AM

Pistons guard Ben Gordon isn't expected to play on Friday night due to a sprained left ankle.

He suffered the injury during Wednesday night's game against the Clippers.

If Gordon misses the game, he'll join Richard Hamilton (ankle) and Tayshaun Prince (back) on the sidelines.

"We're dropping like flies," Rodney Stuckey said. "We just have to fight through it. That's pretty much it."

Big Ben Was Very Close To Retirement

Nov 23, 2009 4:15 PM

Pistons forward Ben Wallace admitted on Sunday night just how close he was to retirement this past offseason.

"I wasn't going to play," Wallace said. "I was retired. I was about to sign the papers."

Cleveland traded Wallace to Phoenix in the Shaquille O'Neal deal this past June. The Suns were looking for the $18.5 million in savings Wallace's deal provided them.

He took a $10 million buyout from the Suns and after prodding from his family, Wallace signed with the Pistons.

"I rededicated myself to getting stronger and healthier to see if I could rekindle my love for the game," Wallace said.

Artest Has Apologized To Fan For Detroit Brawl

Nov 20, 2009 7:10 AM

Thursday marked the five-year anniversary of one of the worst brawls in U.S. sports history.

On November 19, 2004, Ron Artest, then with the Pacers, went into the stands in Detroit to go after a fan that had thrown a cup of beer on him.

John Green, the fan that helped initiate the incident, spoke on ESPN's "First Take" Thursday. He said that Artest called him several months ago to apologize.

"He said that he was sorry, that ... the whole thing embarrassed him as it did me," Green said. "He wanted to do something for the community for troubled youth. Of course, I can't do much on this end without him.

"We tried to come up with something to give back to the community and come up with something positive. It's not like it's not always going to be known as the brawl, but maybe we could take something good out of it. We're going to try to do something in inner-city Detroit or L.A., maybe after the season ends and he has more free time on his hands."

Green was convicted of misdemeanor assault, ordered to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and banned from Detroit home games for life.

Artest was suspended for 73 games, the remainder of the 2004-05 season, and lost roughly $5 million in salary.

"I remember throwing the cup, actually a cup of Diet Coke, not a beer, but I had been drinking and I've had issues with alcohol in the past," Green added "I remember [Artest] running into the stands and grabbing the wrong person and I felt bad. I grabbed Artest from behind, the whole thing was kind of a huge blur. It happened so fast."

Hamilton May Have Signed Last Contract

Nov 17, 2009 8:03 AM

Pistons guard Richard Hamilton isn't sure if he'll sign another contract in the NBA.

His current deal runs through the 2012-13 season.

"I don't know," Hamilton said in an interview with the Detroit Free-Press.

"When you hit 35, you take it one year at a time. I know that at a certain time being around my family (will take precedence). I'm going to walk away. I'm not going to be one of them guys that just sits around and holds on. When I feel as I'm not going out there and playing as hard and the game is not that important to me no more, I'll stop playing."

Larry Brown Owes A Lot To Kuester

Nov 11, 2009 8:24 PM

John Kuester has frequently mentioned how much he owes his former boss Larry Brown, but the head coach of the Bobcats said on Wednesday that it is mutual.

"I don't look at him as my prot?g?. He's been a big part of my career. I owe a lot to him," said Brown. "But the nice thing is there is a lot of guys in this league that have helped me that are doing quite well and have positions that they deserve.

"I am happy for him. He deserves it. Joe (Dumars, the Pistons president of basketball operations) recognized that. He's given him a wonderful opportunity. This is a great place to coach and it's a great organization to work for. John will do a great job. He's done a phenomenal job wherever he's been. He's been loyal. I'm confident he'll do a great job here."

Kuester: Wallace Looks Like 'Old Ben'

Nov 11, 2009 8:23 AM

The Pistons have gotten more out of Ben Wallace than they expected.

The veteran is averaging a team-high 9.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

"I knew Ben would be an asset talking to our bigs," coach John Kuester said. "I never imagined that he would have the impact playing that he is having right now. He looks like the old Ben."

Wallace posted just 2.9 points and 6.5 rebounds in 56 games for the Cavaliers last season.

"You can tell Big Ben is definitely at home here," Pistons guard Ben Gordon said. "He's playing with energy, and it just seems like he's rejuvenated."
