Jerrells Has Chance To Be Detroit's Third PG

Aug 31, 2009 4:01 PM

Curtis Jerrells will be the third point for the Pistons when training camp opens next month.

Jerrells, who played at Baylor, signed a non-guaranteed contract with Detroit this summer. If he plays well, he'll have a chance to make the team's Opening Night roster.

However, Pistons coach John Kuester is confident in Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum. In addition, he believes that Ben Gordon, Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince can help initiate the team's offense.

Detroit has two roster spots open, but president Joe Dumars likes to leave one spot open for flexibility during the season.

Gordon's Playoff Performance 'Solidified' Pistons' Pursuit

Aug 27, 2009 1:53 PM

Ben Gordon's playoff performance helped him secure a lucrative free agent deal from the Detroit Pistons.

"He was a guy we always had our eyes on, so that never changed," said Joe Dumars.  "Watching him perform in the playoffs only solidified what we felt all along. In terms of ending up somewhere else, what didn?t change was the amount of teams that had cap space. That never changed. We felt like if he was going to make a decision to leave Chicago that we were positioned to be the team. That?s with all due respect to the other teams that had money. We just felt like we were the team that had a better shot at him.

Kuester Would Have Been Content As Assistant

Aug 23, 2009 10:59 AM

John Kuester spent fifteen seasons as an assistant in the NBA before he finally got a head coaching job.

Kuester, who was named the head coach of the Pistons this summer, spent time with six different teams.

"I was always comfortable with what I was doing," Kuester told the Boston Globe. "I would have been fine continuing to be an assistant coach. It's a great life. You meet great people. But did I want to someday be a head coach? Absolutely."

The Pistons are undergoing a transition, but Kuester feels lucky to be in such a positive situation.

"I just keep thinking, 'How lucky am I?' " said Kuester. "I feel blessed to be in this situation, in a great environment, with a great organization that wants to compete for a championship. The Pistons are one of the premier organizations in the league. They're accustomed to winning."

Gordon Could Play Some Point In Detroit

Aug 23, 2009 10:48 AM

The Pistons are unlikely to sign a third point guard prior to the start of the upcoming season.

Rodney Stuckey will start, with Will Bynum coming off the bench. The Pistons appear comfortable using newly-acquired guard Ben Gordon as a third option at the position when needed.

In a recent interview with Dime Magazine, Gordon insisted that he's more than just a shooter.

"In Chicago, scoring was what I was asked to do," Gordon told Dime. "But I can do a lot more -- I can make treys, I can pass, I can create. There's a lot to my game that people haven't seen, or seen enough of. I think in Detroit, I'll be able to do more than just score."

Pistons Haven't Been Asked About Iverson

Aug 21, 2009 7:28 AM

Larry Brown has spoken about out Allen Iverson, but the guard's most recent employer hasn't been asked for a reference.

"Not one," a Pistons front-office source told Yahoo! Sports.

Adrian Wojnarowski writes that no calls have been made to Detroit because Iverson's behavior isn't a secret around the league.

"When he went to Detroit and showed that he couldn't really fit into a team setup, it sent out a 'buyer beware' signal to everyone," one NBA general manager said.
