Dumars: Pistons To Alter Roster

Apr 30, 2009 7:18 AM

Joe Dumars is looking to reshape the Detroit Pistons this offseason, the Associated Press is reporting.

With about $20 million to spend and four draft picks, Dumars hopes to make a splash in free agency or on the trading market.

"I'm not just looking for a couple complementary players," he said.

Dumars wants an impact player, or two, who makes plays in the fourth quarters of big games.

Rasheed Never Asked For Buyout

Apr 29, 2009 3:51 PM

Contrary to rumors, Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace never asked the team for a buyout of his contract during their disappointing season.

Joe Dumars confirmed in an e-mail to the Detroit News that the rumor was false.

Wallace was known to joke about receiving a buyout in the team's locker room. It all reportedly started when the Pistons signed Chris Webber after he'd been bought out by the 76ers a couple years ago.

Will Pistons Have To Include Prince In Major Deal?

Apr 28, 2009 5:27 PM

The Pistons are primed for significant changes after a disappointing season and many believe that Tayshaun Prince will have to be a part of any major deal they swing.

Despite handling Detroit rather easily in a four-game sweep, LeBron James had kind words for the former Eastern Conference power.

"I think [president] Joe [Dumars] is going to do a great job of getting this team back to playing competitive basketball," James said. "They have some very good players right now. And one thing about Detroit, you never count those guys out."

Curry Forecasts Big Offseason In Detroit

Apr 28, 2009 9:56 AM

The Pistons suffered through a major trade, an eight-game losing skid and a first-round playoff sweep, which leads many to believe that they'll have an eventful offseason.

"I knew for sure once we traded Chauncey [Billups] that we were going to be a different team," said coach Michael Curry. "We got a big off-season to bring some additions to the team, and look forward to getting better and going on another run."

Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press wrote on Tuesday morning that of the team's core, only Rodney Stuckey, Richard Hamilton, Arron Afflalo, Will Bynum, Kwame Brown and Jason Maxiell are likely to return.

McDyess May Leave Detroit Because Of Rebuilding

Apr 27, 2009 10:44 AM

Antonio McDyess signed with Detroit in 2004 with the hope of winning a championship, but that quest has gone unfulfilled.  The Pistons are now in full retooling mode and that could influence McDyess as to whether he will re-sign this summer.

"It was a disappointing season for me and for everyone in this locker room," McDyess said. "It will probably play a role in what my decision is. At this point I just want to win and at least compete. This season just seems like a loss for us."

The 24-year-old superstar said his work ethic has been "everything" in a breathtaking career that has surpassed unprecedented hype.

"You're only born with a certain amount of gifts," he said. "You have to take advantage of them, and put in the work. My work ethic has helped me be the player I am today."

Hamilton On Detroit's Decline: It's Killing Me

Apr 26, 2009 5:12 PM

Pistons guard Richard Hamilton has been saying all the right things, but the sharp decline of his team is truly bothering him.

Detroit entered Sunday's game against Cleveland in an 0-3 hole, one loss away from an early exit.

"This is killing me, I'm not gonna lie," Hamilton told the Detroit Free Press.

It isn't just pride that Hamilton is feeling, but guilt as well.

"We get paid a lot of money. You should always play with pride and play with heart. I'm not the type of guy who hangs my hat on moral victories."
