Pistons Still Searching For Big Man

Feb 21, 2010 6:00 PM

The Pistons will likely be looking for a big man this offseason.

"I think we knew what our need was coming into the season," said guard Richard Hamilton.

Detroit is a jump-shooting team without a presence in the middle.

Ben Wallace has fit in nicely, but Kwame Brown, Charlie Villanueva, Chris Wilcox, Jason Maxiell and Jonas Jerebko aren't in a position to be a post presence at either end of the floor.

Friday's loss was a perfect example of their struggles.

After shooting 80% in the first quarter and scoring 29 points, the offense scored just 56 points over the final three quarters.

Sources added that Los Angeles is unlikely to deal Kaman, even though he has two years and $23.5 million remaining on his contract (after this season).

Trade Rumors Heavier This Year For Prince

Feb 10, 2010 4:26 PM

Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince isn't worried about hearing his name in trade rumors, but his family is a different story.

"There was some talk last year and the year before, but so much more this year and that's why it's been bothering them," said Prince.

"Last year there were reports of me going to L.A., and they were going crazy about that. It's just part of the business and we'll see what happens."

Prince's name has been mentioned in a number of rumors, but none of them have traction, according to the Detroit News.

"I'm pretty sure it goes for guys around the league. It's just something that happens and you have to move on from it," he said. "I haven't been paying much attention to it, but my family does more than I do."

Gordon: Rumors 'Part Of Our Everyday Lives'

Feb 9, 2010 3:47 PM

Pistons guard Ben Gordon is being mentioned in trade rumors, something he says comes with the territory.

When asked about a rumor linking him to a three-team deal involving Suns forward Amare Stoudemire, Gordon said Monday that trade rumors are "part of our everyday lives."

"My name hasn't been in the talks as much this year, so I haven't had to really think about that or concentrate on that," Gordon said. "I wouldn't say I'm at ease. I'm just more focused on what's going to happen and how I can help us get better."

Gordon is averaging 16.1 points in 30 games this season for the Pistons.

FBI Investigated Letters Sent To Daly

Feb 7, 2010 5:54 PM

The FBI investigated a series of threatening letters sent to Pistons coach Chuck Daly at the height of his success during the "Bad Boys" championship era.

The 67 pages, obtained by the Associated Press, detail how federal agents in Detroit ordered fingerprint, handwriting and even psycholinguistic analyzes as part of an effort to determine who sent the letters.

One letter, mailed from Cleveland and postmarked April 24, 1989, arrived about two months after Cavaliers guard Mark Price suffered a concussion following a Rick Mahorn elbow.

"God made me realize that YOU, not Laimbeer, Mahorn or any of the others are the one possessed by [Satan]," the author wrote in the one-page handwritten letter addressed to "Mr. Chuck Daly."

Big Ben Getting Close To 2,000 Blocks

Feb 2, 2010 4:14 PM

Pistons forward Ben Wallace is just one block away from reaching 2,000 for his career.

At 6'9", Wallace will become the shortest player in NBA history to reach the milestone.

"I've been around for a while," Wallace said. "I've been lucky -- lucky to have been around for a while. Nobody has gotten tired of me and sent me home yet.

"It's a milestone. It's not something that I said I wanted to set out and do. You go out and play hard, good things will happen, and that's just one of the things that happens when you play hard.

"Shot blocking isn't always about the big guys going in there. It is timing and footwork and being in the right place at the right time, and being on a solid defensive team."
