The Pistons will start Austin Daye at power forward when they open the season against the Nets on Wednesday night.
Daye averaged 5.1 points per game last season as a rookie, but impressed during the preseason.
Detroit lost forward Jonas Jerebko to a torn Achilles tendon.
The Pistons hoped to be active on the trade market this summer, but nothing materialized.
As the season begins, team president Joe Dumars intends to keep his phone lines open for potential deals.
"I'm comfortable with the roster right now, but I wouldn't say I'm content," Dumars told the Detroit News.
"I think we're ready to go out and compete right now, but if we can add some help along the way, I'd feel even better. So we're still in the mode of being able to add help, especially in the frontcourt with some size."
Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars announced Wednesday that the club has requested waivers on guard Vernon Hamilton and forward Ike Diogu.
Hamilton appeared in five preseason games, averaging 0.6 assists and 0.8 rebounds in 3.6 minutes per game.
Diogu appeared in three games, averaging 2.3 points and 1.7 rebounds in 5.3 minutes per game.
Tracy McGrady is unlikely to play in Detroit's final four preseason games.
McGrady believes he could play, but he will follow the directions of strength and condition coach Arnie Kander.
?I?m starting to get antsy,? he said in the locker room of Van Andel Arena.
The Pistons took an MRI of McGrady?s surgically repaired knee on Wednesday and it is structurally sound.
William Davidson's widow is in the market to sell the Pistons and the NBA wants Mike Ilitch to purchase the Detroit franchise.
"It makes perfect sense for Mike to buy the team," a source said.
"He's a local guy - and there's probably nobody else who wants it."
Pistons swingman Tracy McGrady sat out Friday night's preseason game against the Bucks as he remains cautious with his surgically-repaired left knee.
McGrady played only eight minutes in Detroit's exhibition opener against Miami.
Strength and conditioning coach Arnie Kander is making sure McGrady is ready for the regular season.
"We're just pacing him right now, and Arnie is in control with him and coming up with the formula for the season," coach John Kuester said.
The Detroit Pistons announced injury updates on forward Jonas Jerebko and guard Terrico White.
Pistons medical staff confirmed today through an MRI that Jerebko suffered a partially ruptured Achilles tendon on his right leg during the first quarter in last night's game at Miami. He is scheduled to have surgery on Friday, October 8 and is expected to miss the next five-to-six months.
Pistons medical staff also confirmed that White broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during the fourth quarter of last night?s game at Miami. He is scheduled to have surgery on Friday, October 8 and a timeline for his return will be determined following that procedure.
Tracy McGrady, who is looking for a new start in Detroit, says he's jealous of what LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have in Miami.
"I am envious (of Miami's Big Three). I'm jealous as s--t,'' McGrady said Tuesday.
"I look at all the teams I've been on, and I never had a Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the same team. I'm jealous, but I'm happy for them. I hope they win 10 damn championships."
McGrady was nearly part of a similar Big Three back in 2000 when he signed with the Magic to pair with Grant Hill and Tim Duncan was being courted as well.
"Ten years ago, we could have done it (put a Big Three together) but without all the hype," McGrady said.
"But that's just wishful thinking now. It's what could have happened. It's only teasing me (to talk about it). So many nights I remember just wishing that Grant was healthy. I would have loved for Duncan to have been there, too, but a healthy Grant Hill would have been good enough (for me)."
The Pistons will be sold to Mike Ilitch, owner of the Tigers and Red Wings, according to a source.
If the sale goes through, Ilitch would control of three of the city's four major professional sports teams.
Ilitch is the owner of Little Caesars.
