Monroe Confident Of Long-Term Future Staying With Pistons

Oct 31, 2012 11:11 AM

Greg Monroe will be eligible for a contract extension next summer with the Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons have clearly committed to Monroe as their franchise cornerstone.

"Flat out, I'm happy where I'm at," Monroe said. "I'm happy to be here. I believe they feel the same way on the other side. I'm just focusing on what I have to do to win games.

"That's something where you have an agent. They do most of that talking anyway, so at the end of the day, I'm going to do my job and let the Pistons on the other side do their job. I trust my agent a whole lot. I'm not worried about that."

Monroe spent nearly the entire offseason working with the Pistons.

"It has been a big help to have my feet on the floor this summer with the coaching staff and with the team," Monroe said. "I definitely think I made strides this summer by being here more and being with the guys at summer league. ... I think I improved a lot this summer."

Dumars Confident In New Pistons Assistant GM George David

Oct 28, 2012 9:03 PM

The Detroit Pistons promoted George David to assistant general manager in the offseason following the departure of Scott Perry to the Orlando Magic.

"George and I have been together for 15 years," said Joe Dumars. "So, you know, what it did was it did put more on George David's plate, things that he's responsible for now. And even working with him for 15 years, it was interesting, because he was like, 'I had no idea it was this amount of stuff that came along with this.' Even one step up, it was a big difference. But I think everybody knows how I feel about George. He hit the ground running and he hasn't missed a beat.  And look, there's not a coaching relationship I have better than with George David. I think he does an excellent job. I think he's perfect for the role. He hasn't missed a beat."

Perry's background is on the basketball side.

"George is a mixture of both," said Dumars. " George played some basketball in high school but George is a basketball junkie. He does a great job on the administrative side, and to be able to sit and just talk basketball. I think that's what makes George really good is that he really is a mixture of both. I don't think you can just pigeonhole him into one category. He's done a great job of being able to mix into all worlds."

Pistons Looking To Play Monroe, Drummond Together

Oct 12, 2012 4:07 PM

The Detroit Pistons could have one of the best young frontcourt combinations in the NBA in Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond.

"At some point you definitely may see it," said Lawrence Frank about playing Monroe and Drummond on the floor together. "The problem we're in now is we have four power forwards and we have to give each of those guys a chance. Based on what we see in practice, we have a pretty good feel of where each guy is at. At some point that combination could definitely come about, but we still have to evaluate our other fours and compare."

Monroe had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Drummond had 12 points, seven rebounds and two highlight-reel blocked shots on Wednesday against the Raptors.
