George David Went From Video Coordinator To Assistant GM Of Pistons

Aug 27, 2012 10:14 AM

George David has been with the Pistons for 15 years, ascending to the position of Joe Dumars' No. 2 in the front office.

David began his tenure as Detroit's video coordinator and now has the title of assistant general manager. David was given the new title in July when Scott Perry left for the Magic.

David heavily scouted recent picks for the Pistons such as Greg Monroe, Brandon Knight and Andre Drummond.

David's future as a GM candidate is largely dependent on how that group performs over the coming years.

"It would be a goal of mine to eventually do it, but I can honestly say that if the rest of my career path is simply being the No. 2 person to Joe Dumars, in a lot of ways I can honestly tell you that would be a complete career," David said.

Dumars Praises Stuckey's Offseason Work Ethic

Aug 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Joe Dumars complimented the work ethic of Rodney Stuckey, who has helped organize workouts at the Pistons' practice facility over the offseason.

“Everything about Stuckey this summer has been very good,” Dumars said. “From his work ethic to his approach to his consistency to his spirit, everything has been really good with Stuck. Stuck is a 26-year-old kid who figured out this summer the amount of work, the pace, the effort you have to put into it. He’s done what he needed to do this summer.

“In terms of putting in the work and the amount of time, I don’t think you could put him second to anybody. He’s put in the work like no other summer I’ve seen from him. History tells you that if you put that kind of work in, you’ll see the rewards of it. That’s what we sell to these young guys: The amount of work you put into it is what you’ll get out of it. That’s where you get your confidence, the amount of work you’ve put in. You know you’ve paid the price.”

Stuckey is coming off one of his best season as a pro, averaging 14.8 points and 3.8 assists in 30 minutes a game.

Celtics, Spurs, Lakers, Warriors, Jazz Rated As Having Best Uniforms By Uni Watch

Aug 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch ranks the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams, with the Celtics coming in first.

"The Rolling Stones, "Goodfellas," a Hershey's with almonds -- the classics are classic for a reason," writes Lukas about the Celtics. "That definitely applies to the Celtics' set. No goofy side panels, no extraneous bells or whistles -- just a perfect, vertically arched wordmark and a simple green-and-white color scheme. They rank atop this list despite sometimes wearing that black-trimmed alternate."

The Spurs, Lakers, Warriors and Jazz comprise the remainder of the top-five.

"The Raiders aren't the only team that knows how to wear silver and black," writes Lukas in regards to the Spurs. "In addition to the killer colors, the Spurs are also among the few NBA teams that have successfully incorporated a graphic image into their chest typography -- a small element that goes a long way."

Dumars Looking To Bolster Pistons Backcourt

Aug 20, 2012 10:48 PM

Joe Dumars is considering ways to add depth to the Pistons’ backcourt.

As of Monday, Detroit’s roster lists Brandon Knight, Rodney Stuckey, Will Bynum and rookie Kim English as the team's only guards.

“I would feel comfortable (with the status quo), but it’s something we’re trying to address, as well,” Dumars said. “We continue to look to shuffle one or two spots on our roster to give it more balance.”

Dumars has reason to believe teams are looking to make trades between now and the opening of training camp.

“I do get the sense that there are more teams trying to impact their rosters through the month of August, which historically has been a slow period,” he said. “In the conversations I’m having and the amount of teams I’m talking to in what is a traditionally slow time, it’s not that right now. For whatever reason, I don’t know, but it is the case. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more moves happen.”

Greg Monroe Preparing To Play Power Forward

Aug 14, 2012 9:56 PM

Greg Monroe is preparing to play power forward in case Andre Drummond and Slava Kravtsov secure available minutes at center.

“They basically said I need to be prepared to play power forward,” Monroe said after a lengthy workout at the Pistons’ practice facility. “They’re looking for at least one of those guys to be ready, so I’ve started to prepare myself to be ready to play the four. We’ve been working on stuff to have me in those positions.”

Monroe feels the transition from center to power forward would be smooth, especially on the offensive end.

“It’s very OK with me,” he said. “With us there’s not that much of a difference, anyway. I’m not really worried about the transition. I’ve been playing power forward and center all my life, so I’m comfortable with playing either. I’m comfortable with the ball in the mid-post and at the elbow. Defensively, maybe that would be the only thing – guarding different types of players. I would have to scout more, learn the guys’ tendencies. It would be different footwork, moving your feet more.

“But I’m ready for the challenge. Like I’ve always said, I’m here to do whatever my team needs me to do. Defense is the staple of this organization. It’s what coach L is trying to do, so I’m just here to work as hard as I can to get better at that, too.”

Drummond 'Learning To Expand Reflexive Field'

Aug 3, 2012 7:07 PM

Pistons' strength coach Arnie Kander has been working with Andre Drummond this summer.

"He's a thinker," Kander told Keith Langlois of DetroitPistons.com. "He might even be in the process of something that happened the play before, focusing on what he probably should have done. That's just part of the developmental process, emotional maturity. Any drill we give him here, when you give him a concept, he locks in.

"He's going to get a lot of different skill sets. Something happens in a game that's different than what he learned in practice, he's still learning to be able to stay with anything that comes at him that might work against what he's used to learning. He's learning to expand his reflexive field."

"The things he does, you can't teach. But he's got to learn to expand the repertoire of the reflexes. A rebound means I've got to get quickly lateral and if something didn't happen, I'm not with that anymore; I'm with the next thing that's occurring. But 18 ... he's got so much potential."
