Apr 29, 2012 1:24 PM

Austin Daye plans to spends most of his offseason training in California with a personal trainer, and where he can work with his father, Darren, who played collegiately at UCLA and five years in the NBA.

Daye is entering the final season of his rookie contract.

“I think that's the main thing that's going to help me is just working with the guy who's gotten me here,” Daye said. “I think it's most important that I go home, be around my family, but also work hard at home.”

Daye still needs to improve his strength.

Prince Wants Pistons To Add Veteran Guard

Apr 29, 2012 11:39 AM

Tayshaun Prince believes the Pistons would benefit from a adding veteran guard who can tutor the team’s younger players.

"Brandon Knight is our starting point guard and will continue to be, but hopefully we can get a veteran point guard to kind of mentor him a little bit," Prince said. "There can be times that me and Ben Wallace can mentor and help him out and whatnot, but I think if you have a point guard that's been through the wars, he can help him out a little bit better than we can."

The Pistons are expected to be over the salary cap and will have only the mid-level exception at their disposal this summer to sign free agents.

Villanueva, Gordon Enter Offseason As Amnesty Candidates

Apr 27, 2012 12:32 PM

Charlie Villanueva could be amnestied this offseason if the Pistons make a move in free agency.

Villanueva is scheduled to make $8 million in 12-13 and has a player option for $8.5 million during the 13-14 season.

I would like to stay here,” Villanueva said. “I love it here, I love it here. At the same time, I'm a realist.”

Ben Gordon is another amnesty candidate, making $12 million for 12-13 and more than $13 million for 13-14 on a player option.

“Anything's possible, anything's possible,” said Gordon. “That's always in the back of your mind. But until you're told something, until you hear something, you just always assume you'll be here.”

Both Gordon and Villanueva were signed in the 2009 offseason.

Gores Expects Pistons To Make Playoffs Next Season

Apr 27, 2012 10:32 AM

Tom Gores believes the Pistons have enough talent to make the playoffs next season.

“We better make the playoffs,” Gores said. “That’s realistic.”

Gores assessed the team’s needs after a 21-20 finish to the season.

“One of the things I realized this year is we have great players on the team so I’m not sure it requires any moves to make the playoffs,” Gores said. “I’m not saying we shouldn’t look at the possibilities of making changes, but I’m also so saying we have great players on this team.”

Stuckey Credits Therapy For Improved Attitude

Apr 15, 2012 5:12 PM

Rodney Stuckey credits his improved mindset to a metro Detroit therapist he started seeing a few times per week after last season.

"It's always good to hear something positive or just to hear anything from someone that's not with you in your circle," Stuckey said. "You always have your best friends, your mom, whoever, to turn to, but they are probably going to say what you want to hear.

"You can have someone to be real with you who's not really judging you, it's looking at you different."

Stuckey said his attitude and effort were affected by his upbringing.

"My mom always taught us that if someone talks smack to you or steps up to you, you have to protect yourself," Stuckey said. "That's just how I carried myself, like if someone would raise their voice at me, I would always have to respond because that's the way I know how to do it. That's just the way I was raised.

"It teaches you how to handle things differently. It does not always have to be anger. It can always be something positive. If someone yells at you, just try to handle it in a different way."

Out Of Rotation, Villanueva In Limbo For 12-13

Apr 10, 2012 10:44 AM

Charlie Villanueva has a contract with the Pistons for the 12-13 season, but his future with the team remains uncertain. Detroit could look to trade him or use their amnesty clause on him as his contributions have been limited.

“I can't worry about things I can't control,” Villanueva said. “I'm just going to finish out these next couple of games, whatever we have – I think we're promised nine games – and if coach calls my name, I'll be ready to play.”

Villanueva is one of the most well-liked players on the team, but hasn't been able to become a consistent part of Lawrence Frank's rotation.

Jerebko Won't Play In Eurobasket Qualifier

Apr 7, 2012 10:45 PM

Jonas Jerebko will spend most of his summer at the Pistons' practice facility in Auburn Hills and will not play for Sweden during European championship qualifiers.

“With me having no time to work on my game – it's been a long season and I went straight from rehab into the season, basically, and had no time to recover on my Achilles' – Arnie said that I need a summer off to just work on my game and get stronger,” Jerebko said. “He's the expert on that stuff. I haven't been able to work my leg in a while. So we just came to a decision that that's the best thing to do.”

The 2013 Eurobasket Qualifiers will be held from mid-August through mid-September.

“I'm very disappointed,” he said. “Of course, I want to represent my country and play. But I'm looking forward to next summer and joining them again, and I wish them all the luck this summer. I'm definitely going to keep a close eye on it.

“I know my teammates, on that team, will understand my decision after coming off an injury like that, so I'm not really worried about it. I'm just looking forward to playing with them next summer and I wish them all the luck.”
