Bosh: Leaving Heat For Rockets Was Close

Jul 31, 2014 6:55 PM

Chris Bosh was close to leaving the Miami Heat for the Houston Rockets before ultimately deciding to re-sign on a five-year, $118 million contract.

"It was close. I'm not going to lie," Bosh said on "The Zaslow and Joy Show" on FM 104.3 The Ticket in Miami. "It was close. It was a weird situation because we were waiting so long and I didn't know what was going on.

"I think you're always in a situation where it is close even if you don't leave because teams got very aggressive on me," Bosh said. "And I guess as soon as LeBron (James) made up his mind, that's when everything could fall in line. But I was just waiting, so I didn't know what was going on."

Parsons Left Rockets In Part For Bigger Role

Jul 24, 2014 11:51 PM

Chandler Parsons may have been motivated to leave the Houston Rockets for a bigger role.

James Harden believes the Rockets won't take a step back despite losing Parsons to the Dallas Mavericks in the offseason.

"Dwight and I are the cornerstones of the Rockets," Harden said while appearing at a charity event in the Philippines, according to The Philippine Star. "The rest of the guys are role players or pieces that complete our team. We've lost some pieces and added some pieces.

"I think we'll be fine next season."

Parsons averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last season.

"That's a pretty ridiculous statement if he meant that," Parsons said. "That's part of the reason I wanted to go to Dallas, because I'm ready for that next step. I'm ready for a bigger role, and I'm ready for more leadership.

"If anybody should understand that, it's James, because he was in the same situation in Oklahoma City and then he got his chance to come to Houston and shine. I'm not real sure what that means."

Francisco Garcia Discussing Deal With Rockets, Others

Jul 24, 2014 11:43 PM

Francisco Garcia is considering a possible deal with the Houston Rockets among other teams.

“We’ve talked about him,” agent Aaron Goodwin said of conversations with the Rockets. “Francisco is just looking for the opportunity to continue to play toward a championship. We’re looking through his options, seeing what would be the best opportunities for him. He definitely has interest in the Rockets.”

Garcia will likely make a decision in the next few weeks. He opted out of his contract for next season in order to become a free agent.

The Utah Jazz have been mentioned as a team interested in Garcia.

Rockets Sign Clint Capela

Jul 24, 2014 12:36 PM

The Houston Rockets have signed first round pick Clint Capela.

The Rockets had considered keeping Capela in Europe this season in hopes of using cap space to sign Chris Bosh.

The Rockets will pay the maximum $500,000 to Capela's previous club, France Chalon, to receive his official FIBA letter of clearance.

Under the NBA rookie scale, Capela will make $991,000 next season and $1.03 million the 2014-15 season with options for two more seasons.

Nick Johnson To Sign Guaranteed, Three-Year Rookie Deal With Rockets

Jul 23, 2014 11:32 PM

Nick Johnson, the 42nd overall pick in June’s NBA draft, will sign a fully guaranteed, three-year rookie contract with the Houston Rockets, a league source told RealGM.

Johnson fell to the Rockets in the second round after his junior season at the University of Arizona, where he averaged 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

A strong, athletic guard at 6-foot-3, Johnson was one of the most dynamic players in Summer League this month. He played both backcourt positions, cemented himself as a rigid defender and had several remarkable dunks and transition baskets.

Johnson scored 12.5 points to go along with 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in Houston’s eight games in Las Vegas.

The Rockets lost Jeremy Lin in the backcourt this offseason, but they received promising efforts from Johnson and Isaiah Canaan in Summer League.

The Houston Chronicle first reported that Johnson will soon sign a deal with the Rockets.

Dwight Howard: Chandler Parsons' Departure Won't Affect Rockets At All

Jul 20, 2014 2:00 AM

Dwight Howard believes that Chandler Parsons' departure from the Houston Rockets will not have a major impact on the team next season.

"It won't affect us at all," Howard said. "We have myself and James. We have the best center and the best two guard in the game on the same team. It's on us."

Parsons spent three years as the Rockets' starter at small forward. He signed a three-year, $46 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

Howard praised the Rockets' addition of Trevor Ariza.

"He'll go through a wall for you," Howard said of Ariza, who was his teammate on the Orlando Magic. "Just to have soldiers on your team like that is great. We have that one-two punch with me and James. We're filling out our roster with guys who are willing to go through that wall and doing whatever it takes to win."

Rockets May Have Accelerated Parsons' Payday As Unofficial Part Of Dwight's Deal

Jul 15, 2014 12:54 PM

Many around the NBA widely suspect that an unofficial part of Dwight Howard signing with the Houston Rockets was for the team to accelerate the free agency of Chandler Parsons.

Howard and Parsons are both represented by Dan Fegan.

No one directly involved with the Parsons negotiations, however, would confirm it.

The Rockets could have picked up their team option on Parsons at under $1 million, but they declined it in order for him to become a restricted free agent this offseason instead of an unrestricted free agent in 2015.

Parsons signed a three-year, $46 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks that the Rockets would have matched if they had also signed Chris Bosh.
