Last year's league MVP LeBron James has endorsed Derrick Rose as his choice for this year's MVP.
"What he's done for that team, with all the injuries they have and them being first in the Eastern Conference. They're playing some really good basketball," James said. "He's playing some unbelievable basketball."
James doesn't think the Heat has a serious candidate for MVP because he and Dwyane Wade have canceled each other out.
Dirk Nowitzki was James' choice until the Dallas power forward was injured.
"You've got some guys here that have done their job also," James said. "But Derrick Rose definitely has gotten a lot of the exposure and a lot of the media attention because of the work he's done. He's playing some unbelievable basketball."
John Wall, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Juwan Howard were ejected after a skirmish during the second quarter of Wednesday night's Wizards-Heat game.
Wall was playing tight defense on Ilgauskas near the 3-point line. Ilgauskas appeared to elbow Wall in the face at least once. Wall responded by swinging his right hand at Ilgauskas.
Wizards center JaVale McGee went to separate them and was pushed away by Heat backup Juwan Howard, who was then also ejected.
While Udonis Haslem is progressing quicker than expected, his return will not be for another month.
Haslem participated in a high-energy shooting drill on Tuesday.
“It’s a little sore [Tuesday], but I’m definitely making strides, heading in the right direction,” Haslem said. “Way further along than I anticipated right now.”
Haslem’s return isn’t imminent, though.
Spoelstra said before Tuesday’s game that Haslem will be evaluated on a weekly basis, meaning he might not be ready for the start of the playoffs.
“We’ll just have to see how the next month goes and then reevaluate,” Spoelstra said. “Only he can tell us how his foot and body is responding.
“We’re having daily discussions with the training staff. None of us really know at this point.”
Haslem said the next step in his rehabilitation “is trying to run up and down” with his teammates.
When LeBron James' name was called during the introductions at Tuesday's Heat-Cavs game at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena, LeBron didn't appear on the court.
James later entered the court when the lights were down for the Cavs' introductions.
During the broadcast on NBA TV, Kevin McHale said he'd never seen anything like that before in an NBA game.
In his post-game interview, James explained that he was using the restroom during the introductions.
There was a time when LeBron James and his entourage had the run of Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena. That appears to no longer be the case.
James arrival for this morning's Miami Heat shootaround was delayed today when he arrived at the entrance of the Cleveland Cavaliers parking garage in a private car with a driver and a second car.
James was eventually cleared to enter the building, but several people with him were not. A Cavs spokesman said that visiting NBA players are not normally given private car access to the underground garage. Exceptions are made when requests are made in advance.
NBA season-ticket holders will receive refunds plus interest if games are canceled because of a labor dispute next season.
The NBA will also pay interest on what could amount to loans to franchises from fans.
Teams can also offer their own options, such as leaving deposits on account in exchange for future tickets.
The Miami Heat offered season-ticket holders an option to receive discounted 2011 playoff tickets and a 5 percent payment in exchange for keeping renewal deposits in a Heat account rather than seeking a refund should there be a work stoppage.
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said there are no intentions of resting Le Bron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh the remainder of the regular season.
"Everybody is playing big minutes now at this time of year it seems," Spoelstra said. "Even though some teams have been in a spot now for a few weeks, but it's not guaranteed. I think there's a lot of opportunity for change going down the stretch."
The Heat hold the No. 3 spot in the Eastern Conference standings but still have slim chances of catching the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls. When asked about giving players a breather, Spoelstra said he gave them a break by canceling the morning shootaround before Sunday's game. On Saturday, the Heat went through a light workout, but that's the extent of rest.
LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh each finished Sunday's 125-119 win over Houston on Sunday with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds.
The last time an NBA team accomplished that feat was in November of 1997 when Isaiah Rider, Brian Grant and Arvydas Sabonis had 30-10 in a quadruple overtime win.
James had 33 points, while Bosh had 31 and Wade had 30. Bosh led with 12 rebounds, followed by Wade with 11 and James with 10.
Dwyane Wade and LeBron James are developing a "trick bag", according to Sixers coach Doug Collins.
Wade is controlling the ball late in games, which lets LeBron James be used in a simple pick-and-roll.
James has been accustomed to playing with the ball in his hands in crunch time, but it appears Wade and Erik Spoelstra have convinced him to try something new.
“I think he's starting to see that this can open up his overall game, and he's going to want to do it more," Wade said last week.
On Friday, Wade had 39 points and 18 in the fourth quarter.
With James playing power forward and the other three players drawing attention away from the action, getting James and Wade in space to play a classic two-man game was unstoppable versus the Sixers.
“When you put LeBron at [power forward], that’s his best position,” Collins said. “That’s where he is a monster because you can’t guard him. When they go small, and that’s what you’re going to see in the playoffs, as much as Chris Bosh probably doesn’t want to play center … they’re tough.”
“LeBron is doing a good job of mixing up his game some,” Wade said. “Handling the ball, being a screener, getting the ball in different positions.”
