Chris Bosh: Number Of Miami's One-Year Deals Something To Acknowledge

Sep 20, 2015 12:27 PM

Chris Bosh and Goran Dragic are the only members of the Miami Heat starting lineup signed beyond the coming season.
Pat Riley has attempted to preserve Miami’s flexibility for the 2016 offseason.

"We have a lot of guys on one-year deals this season, and that's something we have to acknowledge," he said. "But I think through team success everybody else can have team success.

"And the main challenge for us will be coming together as a team and making sure we define our roles and play our roles to perfection."

Heat Guarantee Salary Of Hassan Whiteside For Entire 15-16 Season

Sep 3, 2015 6:29 PM

The Miami Heat have guaranteed the contract of Hassan Whiteside for the entire 14-15 season.

The Heat could have waited through a series of guarantee dates.

Whiteside initially signed a contract last season that provided for staggered guarantee dates for his $981,348 salary for 2015-16. He was guaranteed 25 percent of his salary on Aug. 1. The initial terms of his contract had him receiving a 50-percent guarantee if still on the team on opening night and then a full guarantee if on the roster on Dec. 1.

With Whiteside to fall short of full Bird Rights due to only a two-year tenure with the team, the Heat still will have to create salary-cap space to re-sign him next summer.

Spoelstra: How Many Teams Can Lose LeBron, Have Compelling Team 13 Months Later

Sep 1, 2015 12:00 PM

The Miami Heat lost LeBron James during the summer of 2014 and should be competitive in 15-16 even if it's still unclear how the pieces fit.

“How many teams, if you lose the best player in the game, can have a compelling team 13 months later?” said Erik Spoelstra.

“It’s not the kind of lineup where you can just throw it out there, and you know it will work,” Spoelstra said. “It’s going to take practice.”
