Bryce Dejean-Jones Killed By Gunshot Wound

May 28, 2016 5:04 PM

Bryce Dejean-Jones suffered gunshot wound to the abdomen late Friday and bled to death.

The New Orleans Pelicans released the following statement:

“It is with deep sadness that the Pelicans organization acknowledges the sudden passing of Bryce Dejean-Jones. We are devastated at the loss of this young man’s life who had such a promising future ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bryce’s family during this difficult time.”

According to a report obtained by the Dallas Morning News, Dallas police officers responded to a call about a shooting at an apartment at about 3:20 a.m. Saturday morning. The resident of the apartment said an individual had kicked open his front door and entered his apartment. The resident retrieved a handgun when he heard the individual and he fired his gun at the individual after calling out at him.

Dejean-Jones reportedly broke into the wrong apartment trying to get to "an estranged acquaintance."

Dejean-Jones, 23, signed a three-year contract with the Pelicans in February after joining the team on consecutive 10-day contracts.

"Bryce overcame a lot of obstacles to get to this point in his career," his agent, Scott Nichols, said. "He was a joy to be around, a talent just turning the corner in his career."

Anthony Davis Loses $24M Not Qualifying For Rose Rule

May 26, 2016 3:33 PM

Anthony Davis was not voted onto one of the three All-NBA teams and therefore did not qualify for the Rose Rule.

The Rose Rule allows players coming off their rookie contract to take up to 30 percent of his team's salary cap if he's voted a starter in the All-Star Game twice or twice named to an All-NBA team.

Davis was an All-NBA First Team selection last year and also started in the All-Star Game, but neither happened this season.

Davis will lose up to $24 million as his five-year deal will be worth $120 million instead of $144 million.

Alvin Gentry Joining Dell Demps At NBA Draft Combine

May 11, 2016 11:21 PM

Alvin Gentry will join Dell Demps to help him scout players during the NBA Draft combine in Chicago for the New Orleans Pelicans.

''I don't think it ever shuts off whatsoever,'' Gentry said about his offseason duties. ''I'm leaving here in the morning at 5 on a flight to Chicago to go to pre-draft camp. Obviously we're very disappointed with the season that we had last year.''

Demps is continuing to conduct his business as usual even though the Pelicans haven't confirmed his return for next season.

''We're going to look at all kind of angles in the draft,'' Gentry said. ''It's always that thing about we're going to take the best player and in this case we'll probably look at situations whoever we feel is the best player that's who we will take.''
