Webber Staying in Sacramento?

Jun 30, 2001 8:07 AM

Marc Berman of the New York Post (yes, a New York paper is reporting this) writes that there are signs that Chris Webber will re-sign with Sacramento. Berman cites sources close to Webber in addition to the fact that Webber has not hired an agent yet (he fired his agent during the season).

Still, that hasn't stopped the Knicks from collecting videotaped pleas from Samuel L. Jackson, Ananda Lewis, rapper Eve and, of course, Spike Lee. Why not borrow an idea from the Bulls and just take Webber to a Mets game?

Knicks Miss Out Again, and Again, and Again...

Jun 29, 2001 9:12 AM

Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Mike Bibby and Elton Brand all found new homes on draft night. Yesterday, Jason Kidd and Stephon Marbury were renting U-Haul's. Not surprisingly, none found their way to New York.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News writes that it will likely be a long summer in New York. So long, in fact, that the focus seems to shift towards Raef LaFrentz and Maurice Taylor now.

Mavs No Longer Interested in Ward

Jun 28, 2001 8:02 AM

Chris Broussard of the New York Times reports that the potential Charlie Ward/Howard Eisley trade is dead. Dallas was likely turned off by Ward's religeous outspokenness. "Charlie thinks he's a preacher, but we already have Rev. Tony Evans doing our chapel," Don Nelson said.

LJ Pondering Trip to Retirement Home

Jun 26, 2001 8:32 AM

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News says that Larry Johnson and Knicks management met last week to discuss the possibility of LJ's retirement. Johnson, 32, has been suffering from chronic back pain that caused him to miss the end of the regular season and the entire first round against Toronto.

Isola writes that the Knicks are hoping to receive a Disabled Player Exception in the event of Johnson's retirement. Don't count on that. Ask the Nets how difficult it is to receive one of those. Timing is everything, and the time has passed for New York.

The Sounds of MSG Silence

Jun 24, 2001 9:52 AM

What's going on in New York? It's anybody's guess, since an apparent Garden-wide gag order has been put into effect.

Even more confusing is the lack of aggression seen by Knicks GM Scott Layden, writes Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News. While both Miami and San Antonio have made inquiries regarding Gary Payton, Layden offered packages beginning with Larry Johnson or Glen Rice.

What about Mike Bibby? The Knicks tried to acquire him before the Trade Deadline in February. But it seems New York hasn't made an offer since, even though Vancouver is reportedly ready to part with him.

Knicks Planning on Move Up

Jun 24, 2001 9:42 AM

Anyone salivating over the chance to acquire two second round picks (#'s 39 and 43) and the rights to the Human Poster, Frederic Weis? You can have it all for the low, low price of a first round pick in Wednesday's draft!

Marc Berman of the New York Post writes that the Knicks aren't planning on staying put, so they've been working out late-first round material. Reportedly, the Knicks have had discussions with Orlando for their #23 pick, and are also targetting Boston, Houston and Vancouver.

Moving up to get Omar Cook may be the attraction, though Berman notes that the Knicks may have their eyes set on Indiana's Kirk Haston.
