Knicks Have Towns, Okafor, Mudiay, Russell, Winslow As Top-5

Apr 30, 2015 3:58 PM

Karl Anthony-Towns would currently be the New York Knicks' pick if they won the lottery.

The Knicks also like Jahlil Okafor, Emmanuel Mudiay, D'Angelo Russell and Justise Winslow in that order, according to sources.

The Knicks have a 38.7 percent chance of obtaining a top-two pick.

Phil Jackson has said he would likely keep their pick if it fell within the top-four, but would consider dealing their pick if it fell to fifth.

Elton Brand To Consider Knicks After Nearly Signing Deal Last Offseason

Apr 28, 2015 10:44 AM

Elton Brand received interest from the New York Knicks last offseason and nearly signed with the team after speaking to Phil Jackson.

“It was at the deadline, at 12:01 a.m., then we spoke that morning,’’ Brand said. “It was surprising just because of his stature. It wasn’t surprising of what he was trying to do to rebuild that team and putting in that work. But it was surprising because he is who he is. It was like being in L.A. with the Clippers and all the championships he won when I was there.”

The Knicks offered Brand the veteran's minimum of $1.4 million, but the veteran forward chose to re-sign with the Atlanta Hawks on a $2 million deal.

“It definitely went down to the wire — the pros and cons,’’ Brand said. “Growing up in Westchester a big fan. It came down to the team. The team at this stage of my career, I knew what we had here, and we had a chance to go a little further. That’s what it came down to at the time.

“I got to make a decision if I’m going to play and come back. [The Knicks] are definitely on the radar for sure. Yeah, I’m thinking about it. Moving on to something else, but I still also love to play and still feel good. I’m going to look at both options.”

Phil Jackson: Getting 2-3 Players With Talent Changes Direction Quickly

Apr 21, 2015 11:17 AM

Phil Jackson faces another critical offseason running the New York Knicks.

While Jackson's challenge last summer was to re-sign Carmelo Anthony, he must decide what to do with a high lottery pick this year.

"We hope that it's a rejuvenation for our team," said Jackson of the Knicks' impending offseason.

Jackson reiterated that he'd consider trading the Knicks' first round pick but that he'd prefer to develop the pick into a franchise talent.

Jackson also said how quickly NBA teams can improve.

"Getting two or three players with talent changes your direction quickly," said Jackson.

Jackson is also looking forward to the rising salary cap.

"We're moving into a new direction of free agency."

Greg Monroe Expects Sit Down With Knicks At Appropriate Time

Apr 15, 2015 8:28 AM

Greg Monroe is expected to receive interest from the New York Knicks in free agency.

“We are well aware the Knicks have cap space and we will sit down with them at the appropriate time,’’ David Falk said. “Now is not the appropriate time.’’

A recent report said the two sides are "about as close to a done deal as you can get."

“It’s so silly,’’ Falk said. “It’s factually incorrect and completely unsubstantiated.

“Do I think he’d be a good fit for the Knicks? Absolutely. He’d be a good fit for 30 teams. Can he work in the triangle? Sure. He played the Princeton offense at Georgetown. He could play in the rhombus. He’d be a great fit for any system.’’

Chris Copeland, Wife Stabbed Outside Manhattan Nightclub

Apr 9, 2015 1:44 AM

Chris Copeland, his wife and another woman were stabbed early Wednesday morning outside a Manhattan nightclub.

Copeland was stabbed in the abdomen, and his wife, Katrine Saltara, was stabbed in the arm and slashed across the breast and backside, according to police.

The Pacers are in New York to play the Knicks on Wednesday night.

"We are aware that Chris Copeland was injured early this morning in New York City," Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird said in a statement. "We are still gathering information and will update when we know more. Our thoughts are with Chris and those injured."

The NYPD said the incident occurred just before 4 a.m. outside the 1Oak Club on West 17th Street.

Police say Copeland and his wife were arguing on the street when a group interfered. Police say the argument escalated until one man pulled out a knife. Copeland suffered a knife wound to his left elbow and abdomen.

Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic of the Atlanta Hawks also were at the scene and arrested and released for obstructing the crime scene, authorities said.

Knicks Prepared To Re-Sign Andrea Bargnani If He'll Accept Vet's Minimum

Apr 8, 2015 1:04 AM

The New York Knicks will consider bringing Andrea Bargnani back because of his offensive talent, but aren’t planning to use their cap space to do so.

The Knicks would surely agree to keep Bargnani on the veteran's minimum, but another team may outbid them on the free-agent market.

“He’s an extremely talented player and the injuries limited him reaching his ceiling,’’ Derek Fisher said. “Whatever the future holds, the way he’s finishing the season is not only showing us, but other teams as well, he’s a very capable player at this point and trying to prove that to everyone, including us. If he’s back, that’s great. If not, he’ll do great no matter the situation.’’
