Julius Randle Out For Regular Season With Sprained Ankle

Mar 30, 2023 5:09 PM

Julius Randle has been diagnosed with a sprained left ankle and will be reevaluated in two weeks.

The playoffs begin on April 15th, which puts Randle's status for those games in doubt.

Randle finishes the regular season with averages of 25.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 35.6 minutes over 77 games. Randle is an All-NBA candidate at forward, which would be his second time making it in three seasons.

Knicks Have Potential To Make Separate Trades For Two Star-Level Players

Mar 22, 2023 11:59 AM

The New York Knicks have had a successful 22-23 season despite deciding not to trade for Donovan Mitchell in the offseason. With Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle as their core, they will have trade optionality this offseason.

"Here's what I think about the Knicks," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "They have two handfuls of trade material, in my opinion. They can make, in my opinion, two big trades if they had to coming into this summer.

"They have the expiring contract of Evan Fournier, which can act as ballast in a trade. They have a bunch of younger players that people are interested in. And they have something like nine tradable first round picks.

"In my view, they can trade for two star-level players if they needed to. It doesn't mean they'd have to do those deals in the summer of '23. Those deals can be made within the 23-24 season, they can be in '24. But they can hold, in my opinion, they can hold Jalen Brunson, they can hold Julius Randle, and they can make two giant trades.

"Whether they can hold Brunson, Randle and [RJ] Barrett and make two giants trades, that would depend on the players. But there is even a window that they can hold all three of those and make two giant trade.

"It's going to require, I think, a player to say 'Send me to New York.' And potentially another star player to say 'Oh, I'll go to New York too.'

"Or for New York to pull a big trade and a star player going 'Ah, man. They got this and they still have this. I want to do that.'

"I kind of compare it to where the Cavs were in 2014. The Cavs had stuff and they had space. They used the space on LeBron and they used the stuff for Kevin Love."

Windhorst then talked about the favorable contract of Brunson, which declines in value over the four years.

"The Knicks are positioned," said Windhorst. "Leon Rose has put them in position. Getting into position is not the hard part. Executing is the hard part. But he's put them in position."

Jalen Brunson To Return For Knicks On Saturday

Mar 18, 2023 12:49 PM

New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson will return to the lineup on Saturday vs the Denver Nuggets. Brunson has missed five of the Knicks last six games.

New York went 3-2 without Brunson in the lineup. The Knicks also lost a game at the Sacramento Kings where Brunson exited early in the second half.

Brunson originally felt soreness in his foot late in a victory over the Miami Heat. Brunson then sat out the next two games before trying to return at the Kings.

The Knicks open the day on Saturday in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. New York's next victory will clinch a winning season for the second time in the last three years. It will also be the Knicks first winning season in an 82-game season since 2013.

Mitchell Robinson Unhappy About Role With Knicks

Mar 15, 2023 10:05 AM

New York Knicks starting center Mitchell Robinson took to Instragram to complain about his role in the team's offense. It wasn't the first time Robinson has taken to social media to vent about his role this season.

Robinson wrote: "Tired asf of just being out there for cardio fam like I want to play basketball to really just wasting my time and energy (facepalm emoji)"

Despite the Knicks rolling to a 123-107 victory at the Portland Trail Blazers, Robinson was unhappy. He played 21 minutes and took just two shots. Backup center Isaiah Hartenstein played 27 minutes and also only took two shots. But Hartenstein was more involved in the offense, as he dished out four assists.

New York re-signed Robinson to a four-year $60 million deal this past offseason. The Knicks also added Hartenstein for two years and $16 million last summer.

Cam Reddish: Time With Knicks Was Tough, It Was All Politics, Favoritism, Not Basketball

Mar 12, 2023 11:47 AM

Cam Reddish believes his lack of minutes with the New York Knicks wasn't due to basketball reasons. Reddish has been a consistent part of the Portland Trail Blazers' rotation since he was traded by the Knicks at the deadline.

“It was tough but at the same time, it ain’t even about basketball,” Reddish told the Daily News. “It had nothing to do with basketball. It was all the politics, all the favoritism. S--t like that. That’s why I wasn’t too worried about it.”

“They put a reputation on you [when you get traded twice like Reddish]. What’s wrong? Why is he going from team to team without getting an opportunity?” Damian Lillard said. “You just don’t know what goes on behind closed doors until you become attached to the situation and it’s our job to encourage him, to speak life into him. Things change and you start to see who they really are.”

The Knicks traded a first round pick to acquire Reddish from the Atlanta Hawks. Leon Rose had to attach another first round pick to send him to the Blazers for Josh Hart.
