Kings Interested In Kevin Love, Willing To Deal Without Assurance He'll Re-Sign

May 26, 2014 11:01 PM

The Sacramento Kings have expressed interest in trading for Kevin Love, according to a source.

The Kings have let the Minnesota Timberwolves know that they are open to trading for the All-Star forward without assurance he would re-sign with them.

Sacramento could offer the No. 8 pick in the NBA draft and a combination of players for Love, envisioning DeMarcus Cousins and Love playing alongside each other.

The Kings had a 28-54 record this season and missed the playoffs for the eighth straight season.

Alvin Gentry Expected To Interview For Jazz's Coaching Vacancy

May 21, 2014 6:40 PM

Alvin Gentry is expected to interview for the head coaching vacancy of the Utah Jazz, according to sources.

The Jazz have already interviewed Adrian Griffin for the opening but have taken a deliberate approach to the search.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have also discussed interviewing Gentry, who is receiving interest to become the associate head coach under Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors and a possible assistant on the staff of Michael Malone with the Sacramento Kings.

Gentry is still under contract with the Clippers and is credited for running their offense, which averaged 108.8 points last season.

Kings To Put No. 8 Pick On Trade Block

May 20, 2014 10:01 PM

The Sacramento Kings did not move up in the Tuesday's NBA Draft Lottery and will pick No. 8.

But the Kings will put the pick up on the trade block in search of a veteran player ready to contribute immediately instead of wait for a rookie to develop.

The Kings were mentioned in trade rumors for Rajon Rondo before the deadline and Isaiah Thomas will be a restricted free agent.

Dennis Schroeder could be a possible target for the Kings, who were high on him during last year's draft.

Sacramento Completes Definitive Arena Agreement

May 10, 2014 11:39 AM

Sacramento city officials completed a definitive agreement Friday evening to replace aging Sleep Train Arena with a new sports and entertainment palace for the Kings.

City officials released more than 2,600 pages of documents spelling out 35-year lease terms with the Kings, financing of the project, environmental reviews and a host of other details on the $477 million project at Downtown Plaza. The deal now goes to the City Council for a May 20 vote.

One year after nearly losing the Kings to Seattle, the city is on the brink of “the biggest economic development project we’ve had in recent memory,” said Assistant City Manager John Dangberg in an interview with The Sacramento Bee. “I’m feeling very good about what has been accomplished in the last 12 months. I couldn’t be happier with where we are right now.”

The NBA is demanding a new arena because Sleep Train, built in 1988, is considered ancient by league standards. Although the new arena will have only about 130 more seats than Sleep Train, the league’s smallest arena, the downtown facility will be designed with “club seats” and other money-making amenities that are common to modern facilities.

Nelson Calls Owens For Richmond Trade 'One Regret Of Career'

May 5, 2014 3:57 PM

The Golden State Warriors traded away Mitch Richmond for the draft rights to Billy Owens in 1991 to the Sacramento Kings.

Owens was an NBA All-Rookie First Team selection and was part of Don Nelson's plan to give the Warriors more size.

"it was the worst trade I've ever made," said Don Nelson. "Mitch was a star. That's the one regret I have of my career."

Richmond was voted into the Basketball Hall of Fame this year.

The Warriors drafted Latrell Sprewell in 1992 and became their starting point guard.
