Yi Traded To Wizards, Freeing Up More Cap Room For Nets

Jun 29, 2010 3:50 PM

On Tuesday, the Nets traded Yi Jianlian to the Wizards for Quinton Ross, creating additional room under the salary cap.

The Nets sent the Wizards cash in the deal.

This opens up $3 million more salary cap room, leaving the team about $30 million under the cap.

"This trade is a good opportunity to add a skilled 7-footer with significant NBA experience who was the sixth overall pick in the draft just three years ago," Ernie Grunfeld said in a statement. "Yi fits in very well with our ongoing plan of building towards the future with a core of young, talented players."

Foye, Livingston Unlikely To Return To Wizards

Jun 28, 2010 7:44 AM

The Wizards have a talented backcourt with Gilbert Arenas, John Wall and Kirk Hinrich, who they'll add in a forthcoming trade with the Bulls.

Michael Lee of the Washington Post writes that because of the additions of Wall and Hinrich, Randy Foye and Shaun Livingston are likely done with the team.

Livingston didn't seem interested in returning to the Wizards anyway, while Washington isn't interested in making a $4.8 million qualifying offer to Foye.

The Wizards also have $30 million committed to the trio of Arenas, Hinrich and Wall.

Bulls To Send Hinrich, No. 17 To Wizards

Jun 24, 2010 3:39 PM

The Bulls have a trade in place that would send guard Kirk Hinrich and the No. 17 pick to the Wizards, sources told ESPN.com's Ric Bucher.

The move could free up enough cap space for Chicago to sign two max-level free agents this summer.

The deal can't be consummated until July 8, when Washington will have enough room under the cap to absorb Hinrich's contract without having to send anything back in return.

Jun 21, 2010 5:02 PM

Mike Miller is looking to sign with a contender after a disappointing season with the Wizards.

Miller, a 10-year NBA veteran, will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

"I'm looking for a winner," said Miller. "The last couple of years have taken a toll on me, as far as not being in the playoffs and not playing this time of year. So I'm looking to change that. This time, if it doesn't work out, there's no one to blame but myself."

Leonsis Says Wizards Aren't Shopping Arenas

Jun 12, 2010 9:59 AM

Wizards owner Ted Leonsis confirmed on Friday that the team is "not actively trading" point guard Gilbert Arenas.

Leonsis assumed control of the franchise on Thursday.

The owner met with Arenas last month and has been in contact with the point guard via e-mail.

"We had a great meeting," Leonsis said. "The conversation was about, 'Here's a line, and you can't cross this line.' The scrutiny around you has quadrupled. You need to internalize that. There are some things you can't joke about anymore."

"We're not actively trading him," Leonsis continued. "But I would ask you to put yourself in another general manager's shoes. He was injured for two years and suspended for a year and he's a max [contract] player. If you were another team's general manager, would you be trading for Gilbert Arenas right now?"
