Wizards To Wear All Black To Game Against Celtics

Jan 24, 2017 11:29 AM

The Washington Wizards will wear all black to Tuesday's home game against the Boston Celtics.

Recent games between the two teams have featured chippy play and plenty of trash talk.

Jae Crowder and Wizards guard John Wall were both fined after the two engaged in an after-the-buzzer dustup during the teams' most recent contest.

"We're wearing all black to the game. You know where we're going with that," Kelly Oubre Jr. told reporters.

Reporters also asked Wall about the dress code, and he responded, "All black everything. A funeral."

Crowder said he is not interested in engaging in extracurricular activity.

"I lost $25,000, so you won't see too much out of me," Crowder said. "For real."

John Wall Healthy Enough To Be 'The Player I Always Wanted To Be'

Jan 18, 2017 2:23 PM

John Wall has played through pain and injuries but he also realized he needed surgeries on both knees this past offseason.

“I wanted to get back to being healthy,” Wall said. “In my first six years I was never healthy. I battled through so much just to prove I could play. For me to have a decent six years was great. But now I’m back to where I can be myself and be the player I always wanted to be.”

Wall is playing the best basketball of his career at least on the offensive end of the floor. Wall averages a career-high in points (22.9 per game), shooting percentage (46.4%), foul shooting percentage (82.1%), steals (2.2 per game) and his assists (10.1 per game and third-best in the NBA) are just below his career-high.

Wall was asked if this is the healthiest he has been so far in his career.

“By far,” he said. “Not even close.”

“I’ve only been around him for a few months now but it seems to me the game is slowing down for him and for a lot of players, there’s a moment that happens,” Scott Brooks said. “That’s happening in the last month – that he’s not rushing to make a great play. He’s letting his play become great with his patience.

“He’s a special player. I told him, ‘Let the game come to you, and you’re going to make a lot of special plays throughout the game.’ "

John Wall, Jae Crowder Downplay Postgame Confrontation

Jan 12, 2017 12:20 PM

John Wall and Jae Crowder had to be separated on Wednesday after the Boston Celtics' 117-108 win over the Washington Wizards.

Crowder could be seen putting his finger in Wall's face after the two exchanged words, and Wall appeared to land a quick open-hand slap before teammates and staffers rushed in to prevent a further escalation. Wall appeared to take another swipe at Crowder.

Five Boston police officers stood guard between the two locker rooms after the game.

"Just some altercation. We knew there was going to be some trash-talking," Wall said. "We knew it was going to be a physical game. That's all it was: Just a little trash-talking and a physical game."

Crowder didn't care to discuss what flared the incident.

"I don't know what you're talking about. I ain't got no comment about that," he said. "You want to talk about the game? Anyone want to talk about the game?"

John Wall, James Harden Named Players Of The Week

Jan 2, 2017 5:47 PM

John Wall and James Harden have been named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 26 through Sunday, Jan. 1.

Wall led the Wizards to a 3-0 week, with all three victories coming at home, where Washington has won eight consecutive games. He averaged 24.3 points (eighth in the East), an NBA-leading 13.0 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.67 steals (second in the East) for the week. After opening the week with 18 points and a season-high 16 assists in a 107-102 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Dec. 26, Wall recorded 36 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in a 111-105 victory against the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 28.

Harden lifted the Rockets to a 4-0 week by leading the NBA in scoring (37.3 ppg), ranking second in the league in assists (12.5 apg) and finishing tied for eighth in the West in rebounding (9.8 rpg). In addition to shooting 56.0 percent from the field, 45.9 percent from three-point range and 88.9 percent from the free throw line, Harden scored 30 or more points and handed out at least 10 assists in all four games.

The 27-year-old Houston guard closed the week with back-to-back triple-doubles, including a historic performance in a 129-122 victory against the New York Knicks on Dec. 31, when Harden scored a career-high 53 points, equaled a career best with 17 assists and grabbed a Rockets-season-high 16 rebounds. Harden became the first player in NBA history to have at least 50 points, 15 assists and 15 rebounds in a game, and he tied Wilt Chamberlain (1968) for the most points in a triple-double.
