The Rio Grande Valley Vipers selected the rights to JR Pinnock, a 6-5, 205-pound guard from George Washington, with the number one overall selection in the 2007 NBA Development League Expansion Draft.

Pinnock started 15 of his 21 games played of the 2006-07 D-League season with the Arkansas  RimRockers, averaging 31.1 minutes, 11.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. He scored in double-figures in 12 games while handing out seven or more assists on five occasions. Pinnock was a member of the Washington Wizards Summer League Team in 2007 and also participated in training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers last season.

Other first round selections included Jeremy Richardson (Fort Wayne Mad Ants), Brian Jackson (Utah Flash) and Will Conroy (Iowa Energy).
