The Utah Jazz called a news conference Thursday at 1 p.m. ET to announce head coach Jerry Sloan's plans for next season.

A team statement did not elaborate, and only said Sloan would be joined at the conference by Jazz owner Larry H. Miller and other club officials.

Sources close to Sloan said he would return, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Thursday.

The Jazz finished last season 26-56, Sloan's first losing season in 17 years of coaching Utah. Despite the highest expectations in years, the team missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

After a 6-1 start, the Jazz were overwhelmed with injuries, losing former All-Star Andrei Kirilenko, Carlos Boozer, Raul Lopez and Raja Bell for much of the season.
