Joel Embiid is playing through a sore right thumb, after an injury suffered late in Game 3 of the Philadelphia 76ers first round series against the Toronto Raptors. Now, an MRI has confirmed Embiid has a torn ligament in that thumb on his shooting hand.

Sixers coach Doc Rivers said that nothing will change with Embiid's availability or treatment. He'll continue to play through the injury for the duration of Philadelphia's playoff run. Following the season, the All-Star center will undergo surgery for the injury, per additional reporting.

Embiid was noticeably bothered by the injury at times in his team's Game 4 loss, as the Raptors extended the series for at least one more game. The MVP candidate shot just 7-of-16 and had five turnovers. He also grabbed only eight rebounds and his defensive impact was lessened.
