Felton, Bobcats No Closer On Contract

Aug 31, 2009 4:16 PM

The Bobcats and Raymond Felton aren't much closer to a long-term deal with training camp less than a month away.

"It hasn't changed much for the better," agent Kevin Bradbury told the Charlotte Observer of negotiations with Charlotte. "We've had conversation and we hope we'll reach agreement...

"There hasn't been a ton of movement."

Bradbury maintains that Felton wants to remain in Charlotte for the long-term. The point guard could sign a one-year,  $5.5 million qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

However, Felton won't consider that until all long-term options are explored.

However, Iverson's first choice is to play for the Bobcats and those same sources claim that the two sides have engaged in serious discussions.

Bobcats Might Be Saving Room For Iverson

Aug 21, 2009 4:08 PM

Larry Brown has issued support for Allen Iverson, but could the future Hall of Famer end up playing for the coach again in Charlotte?

Raymond Felton is a restricted free agent with a $5 million qualifying offer on the table. However, the point guard is looking for a longer deal and the Bobcats could have room for Iverson if another team decides to make Felton an offer.

Many Factors Could Keep Iverson From Charlotte

Aug 19, 2009 3:54 PM

Allen Iverson is still looking for a home, and Bobcats coach Larry Brown says that a variety of factors could keep the future Hall of Famer from Charlotte.

"There are financial factors, and there's also the problem of the availability of minutes in our rotation with Ray [Felton, a restricted free agent], Raja [Bell] and D.J. [Augustin] -- and those are a couple of major obstacles we're trying to overcome," Brown told ESPN.com. "But at the end of the day, I want to help him, and it might be as his coach again. We'll have to wait and see."

The franchise is up for sale, which complicates financial decisions. In addition, Charlotte can't insult Iverson with a low offer after he made more than $20 million in the final year of his contract last season.

"I've spoken to a lot of people on his behalf, because last year was a difficult situation for him being put in where he was, replacing Chauncey Billups," Brown added. "That would have been a difficult situation for anybody. But I know he's comfortable with me, and we've had a lot of discussions. When he played for me was probably when he played his best. Would I like to coach him again? Absolutely."

Johnson Still Pursuing Bobcats Sale

Aug 19, 2009 7:26 AM

Bobcats owner Bob Johnson is still looking to sell the team.

Johnson and George Postolos of Houston continue negotiations on a deal for the team, multiple sources told the Charlotte Observer.

Johnson currently owns 70 percent of the Bobcats, and put the team up for sale several months ago. In the meantime, many of the club's financial decisions have been put on hold.

The team is heavily in debt, with roughly $100 million that new ownership would have to take on.

Bobcats Interested In Florent Pietrus

Aug 12, 2009 7:33 AM

Bobcats coach Larry Brown has confirmed a report that the club is interested in forward Florent Pietrus.

"A lot of interest," Brown told the Charlotte Observer of the brother of Magic swingman Mickael Pietrus. "But right now we're really focused on Raymond (Felton, the team's unsigned starting point guard). That affects everything else."

Goals Change For Okafor In New Orleans

Aug 5, 2009 7:17 AM

Emeka Okafor has changed his goals upon his arrival in New Orleans.

"I'm a very loyal person, so whatever situation I'm in, I'm for that cause," Okafor told the Associated Press. "So I wasn't in Charlotte hoping to get out. I was in Charlotte hoping to make it to the playoffs and elevate the organization to higher levels.

"Circumstances changed. I'm a Hornet. I'm happy to be a Hornet. Now that the circumstances have changed, the goals have changed."

Okafor has averaged a double-double in each of his first five NBA seasons, and is looking forward to playing on an established team like the Hornets.

"It's a more established team," Okafor said. "They're not necessarily focused on [making] the playoffs, but how deep can you go into the playoffs."

Felton Stuck In RFA Limbo

Aug 4, 2009 7:49 AM

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Bobcats and point guard Raymond Felton are still far apart on a deal.

"Word out of Raymond Felton's camp is that Bobcats and Felton are still far apart on a deal. Both want long term but not same page on dollars," Mannix wrote on his Twitter page.

Shortly after, Mannix added another update about the talks between Charlotte and the restricted free agent.

"I'm told Felton enjoys CHA and loves playing for Larry Brown but would like a commitment. If not, he'll take 1-yr and become a UFA in '10," he wrote.
