Signs Point To Felton Remaining In Charlotte

Jun 28, 2009 7:58 AM

Restricted free agent Raymond Felton is likely to remain with the Bobcats.

"I don't see any situation where he's not with us," manager partner Michael Jordan said Thursday. "I anticipate us keeping Raymond Felton, without a doubt."

Felton has said that he'd love to return to Charlotte, and that he loves playing for coach Larry Brown.

The Bobcats exercised Felton's $5.5 million qualifying offer, affirming his restricted status, but now a long-term contract will be a topic of conversation.

Postolos Firm Looks To Purchase Bobcats

Jun 28, 2009 7:48 AM

A group led by former Rockets president George Postolos has reportedly entered in talks to purchase the Bobcats.

Postolos helped the Rockets get a new arena and the franchise's growth jumped from $166 million to $422 million during his 7 1/2 years in Houston.

He refused to comment on the Charlotte rumors, but when he left the Rockets back in 2006 he said that he would love to get back into the industry.

"I could be part of a group that owns a team," he said three years ago. "That could be attractive. That has always been a goal of mine. It's not an easy thing to make happen."

Michael Jordan, a Bobcats minority partner, said Thursday that he also hoped to put together a group to buy the team.

Jordan Interested In Buying Bobcats

Jun 26, 2009 7:12 AM

Michael Jordan is interested in fronting an ownership group to buy the Bobcats.

Jordan touched on the subject Thursday for the first time since majority owner Bob Johnson said last month that he intends to sell the club.

"I would like to put together a team to do that, yeah," Jordan said.

It is unknown whether Jordan is on the verge of securing the investors and money needed to buy the team.

Johnson paid $300 million for the team in 2003.

Appearance By MJ Impressed Williams

Jun 24, 2009 8:05 PM

It's rare that a player will single out a specific team prior to the draft, but Terrence Williams said that he came away impressed by the Bobcats.

"A lot of organizations impressed me, but I would say the Bobcats more so because Michael Jordan came in," Williams told RealGM on Wednesday. "It was the first one that he attended, so I felt honored to be working out in front of The Greatest."

In terms of what fellow prospect impressed Williams the most, he provided a rather shocking answer.

"Everybody does to be honest, because everybody knows what's at stake and what's on the line and everybody wants to bring their best in the workouts," Williams said.

"If I have to pick just one guy though, I would say Dionte Christmas. Here's a guy that might not get drafted in the first round, but he brings it every workout that he's in. He did nineteen, so I give him a shout out because he plays so hard."

Bobcats Make Qualifying Offer To Felton, Not May

Jun 23, 2009 3:55 PM

The Bobcats have decided not to make a qualifying offer to Sean May, but have done so to Raymond Felton.

The first four years of May's career have been marred by knee and weight issues. He was the 13th overall pick in the 2005 draft, and would have made $3.7 million under the one-year tender for the 2009-10 season.

"I think it's a combination of things," general manager Rod Higgins said Tuesday of the decision. "I think there's production that comes into play. That with the addition of salary, for us it just didn't make sense for that commitment right now for what we're trying to do with the team."

Higgins didn't rule out the idea of re-signing May, but any deal would obviously be worth less than the qualifying offer.

Jun 22, 2009 4:33 PM

The Bobcats had Gerald Henderson and Terrence Williams in for a second workout on Monday.

Williams told reporters in New Jersey on Friday that he was done with workouts, but Charlotte was obviously able to persuade him to change his plans.

Henderson and Williams took the floor together for a combined workout.

Brown Hints Bobcats Could Trade Pick

Jun 12, 2009 4:36 PM

Bobcats coach Larry Brown has hinted that the team would entertain the idea of trading the 12th overall pick.

"Whatever makes our team better," Brown said when asked whether Charlotte would think of dealing the selection.

Brown added that the team needs upgrades, whether through the draft or by trade, at the power forward, shooting guard, and possibly, point guard positions.

Bobcats Will Give Felton Qualifying Offer, Unlikely To May

Jun 11, 2009 11:18 AM

Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins said Wednesday it's a foregone conclusion Raymond Felton will receive a qualifying offer (about $5.5 million for next season) from the club.

Higgins said the team is still deciding whether to tender a qualifier to Sean May ($3.6 million-plus).

If the Bobcats don't offer May that qualifier, he'd become an unrestricted free agent in July.

Stern Doesn't Know If MJ Plans To Buy Bobcats

Jun 7, 2009 9:54 AM

NBA commissioner David Stern says that he isn't sure if Bobcats minority owner Michael Jordan plans to put in a bid to become majority owner.

"I don't know what Michael's plans are, but I do know that Charlotte is an extraordinary market," Stern said. "It led our league in attendance for many years. It's got a terrific new building, and I'm sure that whoever the next owner is will fully realize the potential of the market based upon a very good start that [owner] Bob [Johnson] has made in bringing basketball back to Charlotte."

The Bobcats are currently valued at $284 million by Forbes, ranked second-to-last in the NBA.
