Jun 30, 2014 11:53 PM

The Detroit Pistons would like to re-sign Greg Monroe, who is a restricted free agent.

But the Pistons are amenable to a sign-and-trade deal if his contract gets too exorbitant.

The Portland Trail Blazers, Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks are expected to be interested in Monroe in free agency.

The Detroit Pistons have declined their team option on Chauncey Billups, who signed a two-year contract last season.

"Chauncey Billups embodies what it means to be a member of the Detroit Pistons," Tom Gores said in a statement. "His leadership, dedication and excellence both on and off the court provide a great example for aspiring young athletes."

“Chauncey Billups will always be a valued member of the Detroit Pistons’ family," Stan Van Gundy said. "Decisions like these are always difficult to make and we certainly wish Chauncey and his family the best in the future.”

Greg Monroe Expects Multiple Suitors In Free Agency, Not Ruling Out Pistons

Jun 15, 2014 1:44 PM

Greg Monroe expects a bevy of suitors as a restricted free agent next month, including possible interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks.

"From what I have been told, it'll be like that (college recruiting) a little bit," Monroe said. "But the NBA has really strict rules and you can't talk about it until July 1. Different things come out about teams who are interested, but I won't know for sure until July 1 when I can actually talk to them.

"I'm hoping and praying that I will have some options. As it looks right now I will have some. But I am just preparing myself and doing the normal things that I would around this time, working out. And on July 1, I'll be with my agent and we'll go through the process together."

The New Orleans Pelicans have made inquiries to the Pistons about a potential sign-and-trade scenario, according to a source.

Monroe has been in contact with the Detroit Pistons' front office and is not ruling out a return to the team. The trio of Monroe, Andre Drummond and Josh Smith did not prove successful this season.

"I've been in communication with [Stan] Van Gundy," Monroe said. "I met with him and he understands the position I am in right now and I am going to go through the process. I haven't met (new general manager Jeff) Bower yet. But I have met with Van Gundy and have kept in constant contact with him through text messages."
