The Detroit Pistons are signing Hasheem Thabeet to a non-guaranteed contract, according to sources.
The Pistons will give Thabeet an opportunity to make the team out of training camp.
Thabeet was recently released by the Philadelphia 76ers.
Free agent center Denzel Bowles is closing on an agreement with Jilin of the Chinese Basketball Association, a source told RealGM.
Bowles worked out for Detroit this week, and the 6-foot-10 big man received a training camp invitation from the Pistons.
Bowles played for Jilin last season and had a workout for the Charlotte Bobcats upon his return. He averaged five points and 4.2 rebounds in the NBA Summer League in July with the Denver Nuggets.
Bowles, 25, split his college basketball at Texas A&M and James Madison, averaging 17.6 points and 8.8 rebounds as a senior in the CAA conference.
Free agent guard Lorenzo Brown has reached agreement on a one-year contract with the Detroit Pistons, a league source told RealGM.
Brown averaged 2.5 points and 1.6 assists in 26 games with the Philadelphia 76ers last season, after the 6-foot-5 guard signed with the franchise as a released free agent.
Brown, 24, was the 52nd overall selection by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2013 NBA draft. He played three collegiate seasons at N.C. State.
Brandon Jennings has gained approximately 25 extra pounds of muscle in the offseason.
“I’m about 185, 190 on my good days,” said Jennings, noticeably thicker but still wiry.
Jennings expects the added weight to help on defense, as well as absorbing contact when driving to the basket.
Jennings also said Stan Van Gundy reminds him of Scott Skiles, who was his first coach with the Milwaukee Bucks.
“He’s really big on details and he said you’re gonna have to play defense and give your all, every night,” Jennings said. “He already said it, I’m not expecting you to lock guys up one on one. Guys are just too good. But what we can do is give a good effort and play team defense.”
Chauncey Billups has decided to retire after 17 seasons in the NBA.
Billups became an unrestricted free agent when the Pistons declined the second and final year of a contract option that would have paid him $2.5 million next season.
Billups had interest in playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier in the offseason.
Billups missed 185 games over the past three seasons.
"It's just time. I'm happy, excited. The game was very, very good to me. I felt like I was equally as good to the game the way I played it and the way I respected it and the way I carried myself through the process."
Greg Monroe has been suspended two games without pay for pleading guilty to driving while visibly impaired, the NBA announced on Tuesday.
Monroe signed a qualifying offer with the Detroit Pistons this week after being unable to negotiate a new contract.
Detroit mayor Mike Duggan said on Monday that he remains interested in bringing the Detroit Pistons to the downtown area of the city.
The Pistons currently play in Auburn Hills.
"I think most Pistons fans would like to see the Pistons come back from Oakland County and and come down here," Duggan said. "And I even think (Detroit billionaire and Cleveland Cavaliers owner) Dan Gilbert would like to see the Pistons come downtown in his neighborhood.
"And hopefully I can get that done before my term is up."
Duggan appeared to suggest he's probably discussed it with Gores.
"You know, I would love to see it," Duggan said. "The Gores family and the Pistons actually own the arena up in Auburn Hills which makes it a little more difficult.
"But if you look at the attendance for the Lions, the Tigers and the Red Wings downtown, and you look at the attendance for the Pistons up in Auburn Hills, I think they could benefit enormously."
Greg Monroe has signed the Detroit Pistons' one-year qualifying offer for the 2014-15 season
“I have said from day one that we have great respect for Greg as a person and like what he brings to this team as a player,” said Stan Van Gundy. “We have had good dialogue with Greg throughout the offseason with the understanding that there were multiple options for both parties involved, and we respect his decision. We look forward to a great year from Greg as we continue to build our team moving forward.”
“I look forward to playing for Coach Van Gundy and his staff,” said Monroe. He has a proven track record and I’m excited about working with my teammates to get better and prepare for the season.”

Monroe will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2015.
Monroe and the Pistons were unable to agree upon a long-term contract.
