Van Gundy Tells Josh Smith He's Unlikely To Be Traded

Jul 21, 2014 2:25 PM

Stan Van Gundy has reached out to Josh Smith to inform him that reports of trade talks involving the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings have been inaccurate. Van Gundy told Smith he expects him to be in training camp with the Pistons this fall.

The Kings made calls about Smith back in June, but there was never an offer that created serious discussions.

The frontcourt of the Pistons is in flux with Greg Monroe being a restricted free agent. The combination of Smith, Monroe and Andre Drummond produced mixed results.

Smith is said to be enthusiastic about playing for Van Gundy.

Smit has three seasons and $40 million remaining on his contract.

The Portland Trail Blazers and Detroit Pistons had serious sign-and-trade discussions earlier this month centered on Greg Monroe.

Monroe remains a restricted free agent and many have speculated that the Pistons will be unable to keep both he and Josh Smith.

The Blazers ultimately decided to sign Chris Kaman to serve as the backup to Robin Lopez at center.

Kings, Pistons Continue To Discuss Josh Smith Trade

Jul 17, 2014 9:48 AM

The Sacramento Kings continue to pursue a trade for Josh Smith with the Detroit Pistons.

The Kings are attempting to find a third team to engage in trade talks to help facilitate the deal.

Talks have centered around Jason Thompson and either Derrick Williams or Jason Terry to the Pistons for Smith.

Skeptics question whether the Kings could gamble on trying to fit Smith in alongside DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay. The Kings like the idea of acquiring Smith because it wouldn't make them part with any players in their long-term plans.

Clippers, Cavaliers Among Teams Interested In Anthony Tolliver

Jul 9, 2014 9:00 PM

Free agent Anthony Tolliver has been in substantial conversations with six NBA teams – including the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers – as a stretch-forward addition, league sources told RealGM.

Tolliver has also received interest from the Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards, San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Hornets among other organizations, sources said, and teams expect a possible signing next week.

For a playoff team in Charlotte, Tolliver averaged 6.1 points and 2.6 rebounds while shooting 41.3 percent from three-point range. He developed a strong relationship with coach Steve Clifford and a leadership role within the Hornets’ locker room.

Tolliver, 29, has averaged 6.1 points and 3.7 rebounds over six NBA seasons with the Spurs, Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks and Hornets. After four collegiate years at Creighton, Tolliver broke into the NBA through the Development League, solidified a niche as a shooter and earned a position in the players’ union.

Tolliver once scored 12.3 points and grabbed 7.3 rebounds per game for the Warriors in 2009-10.
