D'Antoni Seeks 10-Man Rotation, May Change From Game To Game

Feb 29, 2012 10:20 AM

With Baron Davis being incorporated into the team and Iman Shumpert and Josh Harrellson returning to the Knicks from injuries, Mike D’Antoni acknowledged the dilemma he now faces in finding minutes for each player.

“It’s not humanly possible to play 12 guys in a normal rotation. Ten probably. Eleven maybe,” he said. “That’s how we have to do it. We’ll see how injuries go, who’s playing well. The idea is you got to be ready because (the player) who doesn’t play today might play tomorrow. It might be a 10-man rotation for back-to-backs, but it might not be the same 10. You might have another guy come in. Instead of the 10th guy . . . the 11th guy comes in. Something like that.”

Source: Knicks Have Likely Inquired About Howard

Feb 26, 2012 11:55 AM

One Eastern Conference general manager believes the Knicks have inquired about trading for Dwight Howard, even though Howard has specified his preferred trade destinations as the Nets, Lakers and Mavericks.

“I’m positive the Knicks have called just in case Dwight changes up,” an Eastern Conference GM said. “I’m sure they’ve offered a combination of everybody, excluding Jeremy Lin, of course. Otis (Smith) deserves a lot of credit for not putting it out on the street which teams have offered what.”

Study: Lin More Marketable Than Kobe, LeBron

Feb 25, 2012 8:35 PM

Jeremy Lin is more marketable than Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, according to a recent Nielsen poll.

Nielsen's N-Score measures name and image awareness, appeal and personality attributes such as sincerity, approachability, experience and influence. Lin topped the survey with an N-Score of 102. Bryant scored a 90 while James gets 84.

About 19% of the U.S. population has heard of Lin, say Nielsen, and of those 30% say they like him.

Stoudemire Willing To Sacrifice Individual Numbers For Knicks

Feb 25, 2012 12:26 PM

Amar’e Stoudemire is averaging 17.5 points per game this season, down from his 23.5 average during his first season with the Knicks.

“No worries,’’ said Stoudemire. “I’ve spent a year where I’ve pretty much had to sacrifice a lot of my game. Whatever it takes to win. That’s the ultimate goal. If it’s sacrificing the All-Star Game for the betterment of the team, it’s how it goes sometimes.’’

Stoudemire is currently vacationing in the Caribbean.

“The break is always great,’’ Stoudemire said. “You want a break from your job now and then. It’s a great opportunity to unwind and reflect on the first half of the year, enjoy the family, get back to work. Anytime you get a break from the game to kick back, relax and enjoy the family, it’s good. ... I’m going to sit back and relax on the beach, sit in nice, cool shade and hang out.’’

Stern: Lin Frenzy Escalated At Record Pace

Feb 24, 2012 10:34 AM

David Stern said the hype surrounding Jeremy Lin is unlike anything the NBA has ever seen.

“I haven’t done a computation, but it’s fair to say that no player has created the interest and the frenzy in this short period of time, in any sport, that I’m aware of like Jeremy Lin has,” Stern said.

The top five videos on NBA.com since Feb. 4, when Lin joined the rotation, are all Lin or Knicks related. Lin went from 190,000 followers on Sina, China’s version of Twitter, on Feb. 2 to more than 1 million as of Feb. 16.

Stern says he’s “never quite seen anything like” the attention on Lin.

Deron Williams Sought Payback Against Jeremy Lin

Feb 21, 2012 10:26 AM

Jeremy Lin scored 25 points to go with seven assists in a 99-92 win over Deron Williams and the Nets earlier this month.

“It started on me,” Williams said of that Feb. 4 loss to Lin and the Knicks.

Williams responded with 38 points against the Knicks on Monday night, including 18 points in the first half, all on 3-pointers and free throws.

“We definitely had this one circled,” Williams said. “I think our whole team did. I know I personally did, because this was stuck in my mind. This all started on me.”

He added: “I don’t really watch sports. I don’t really watch too many games, but I do see Twitter. People tweeting me, and every three lines was Jeremy Lin destroyed Deron Williams. So I definitely took offense to that from the first game.”

Martin Defends Carmelo, Blasts Karl

Feb 19, 2012 1:35 PM

Kenyon Martin came to Carmelo Anthony’s defense when asked to comment on criticism levied against Anthony by current Nuggets coach George Karl.

"Man, listen, George needs to keep his mouth shut, first and foremost," Martin said. "Melo don't play there no more. So Karl shouldn't be commenting on Melo. If George was such a great coach, then Melo would want to stay. He wouldn't want to leave.”

Karl has often praised his team's new style and how the absence of Anthony has made his job easier.

"If the organization was ran right, he wouldn't want to leave, so it ain't Melo,” Martin said. “With Melo, not one time when he was there [in the Nuggets' locker room] did he bring that in the locker room when all that stuff was going on. Not one day. Everybody made it a bigger deal than it had to be. That's a good kid.

"They act like this kid was a cancer, like he came in there and destroyed the locker room and made everybody hate him. No, it wasn't nothing like that man. And it bothers me for people to be talking about how he's a selfish player and he has to defend himself."
