Raptors Would Like To Deal Future Pick For Immediate Player

Jan 12, 2016 12:05 PM

The Toronto Raptors have extra picks forthcoming from the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks, but are unlikely to be able to use all of them since they already have many young players.

The Raptors would like to upgrade at power forward or some help on the wing.

"We already have so many young players," Ujiri said. "And those extra picks over the next two years -- we can't use all those picks. So [a trade] is always something you're looking at."

The Raptors became inadvertent contenders when they were unable to agree upon a Kyle Lowry deal in 2013 shortly after trading away Rudy Gay and are now looking to take their next step towards contention.

"Adam [Silver] has done a great job creating parity," Ujiri said. "I don't know if that will create more deals or less deals, but it seems like less to me."

Markieff Morris, Kenneth Faried, Ryan Anderson, Channing Frye, Terrence Jones, Donatas Motiejunas and Thaddeus Young are some of the players who could be available via trade.

Kyle Lowry: It's Not Cool To Lose In First Round Anymore

Jan 12, 2016 11:59 AM

The Toronto Raptors have made the playoffs in each of the past two seasons but have been eliminated in the first round both times.

"It's cool to make the playoffs," Kyle Lowry said. "It's not cool to lose in the first round anymore. The goal is to make the Finals."

The Raptors lost to the Brooklyn Nets in seven games in 2014 and were swept by the Washington Wizards last season.

Toronto is eager to prove their guard-heavy style of basketball can win in the postseason.

Lakers To Offer DeMar DeRozan Max Contract

Jan 12, 2016 10:30 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers are prepared to offer DeMar DeRozan a max contract in the offseason starting at $25 million per season.

DeRozan can decline his player option with the Toronto Raptors to become a free agent.

Replacing DeRozan would be difficult for the Raptors but there is a succession plan with Terrence Ross at shooting guard.

Masai Ujiri re-signed every core player when he was general manager of the Denver Nuggets and re-signing DeRozan at the max would become its own litmus test.

DeMar DeRozan Wants To Re-Sign With Raptors

Jan 9, 2016 12:23 PM

While DeMar DeRozan will almost certainly become a free agent, he maintains his preference is to re-sign with the Toronto Raptors.

“That’s one you thing you can never question: my loyalty to the city,” DeRozan told host Joey Vendetta on the Jeff Blair Show. “How much I really love and appreciate the team and the organization. I think all the fans understand that. A lot of times they don’t understand how contracts or things like that. But I’ve always stressed that this is where I want to be my whole career.”

DeRozan was the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.

“Since Day One in Toronto, I’ve been so prideful of the city and the country.”

“A new contract is what DeMar is going for and we feel we have a good shot,” Raptors GM Masai Ujiri said Thursday evening on Prime Time Sports. “This is his team, this is a team that he knows very well, loves the city, is well-loved here, and we can offer him a year extra. There are so many things, so we feel comfortable.”

DeMar DeRozan To Opt Out, Feels Loyal To Raptors

Jan 7, 2016 10:33 AM

DeMar DeRozan plans to opt out of his $10 million contract next season with the Toronto Raptors, according to a source.

The Brooklyn Nets figure to pursue DeRozan in free agency.

“I can tell you he’ll opt out. But how he feels about Brooklyn — or anybody else — I can’t say. Only he can answer that,’’ said the source, who added that DeRozan feels he’s been treated well by the Raptors and “has a trait that’s been lost by so many players. It’s called loyalty.”

DeRozan is averaging 22.9 points per game.

Raptors 905 Acquire DeAndre Daniels, Greg Smith

Jan 5, 2016 4:33 PM

Raptors 905, the NBA Development League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors, announced Tuesday it has acquired forward DeAndre Daniels and forward/centre Greg Smith.

Daniels was the Raptors’ second-round pick (37th overall) in the 2014 NBA Draft. The 6-9 forward suffered a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot as a member of the Raptors' entry in the 2015 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this past July. He joins the Raptors 905 roster in the final stages of rehab on his right foot, while Raptors 905 Head Athletic Therapist Giovanni Sardella will now lead the efforts to prepare Daniels for game action in the near future. Last season, Daniels appeared in 30 games with the Perth Wildcats of the National Basketball League (Australia), where he averaged 14.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 30.7 minutes.

Smith was claimed off waivers by Raptors 905. He last played for the Dallas Mavericks during the 2014-15 season, where in 42 games he averaged 1.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 8.6 minutes. In 131 career NBA regular season games with Dallas and Houston, he has averaged 4.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 12.5 minutes. He is expected to be in uniform Thursday, January 7 when Raptors 905 plays host to the Sioux Falls Skyforce at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, California at 8 p.m. ET as part of the NBA D-League Showcase.
