Tyler Johnson Signing Deal To Remain With Heat

Feb 8, 2015 1:32 PM

Tyler Johnson has reached agreement on a contract to stay with the Miami Heat for the remainder of the season, league sources told RealGM.

Johnson's deal is a two-year contract.

Johnson, 22, has built equity with the franchise through summer league, training camp, the Development League and regular season action. He decided to take a deal now with the Heat despite multiple NBA teams prepared to engage in negotiations should he have been set free from his final 10-day contract. For Pat Riley, Erik Spoelstra and the front office, Johnson has become a scouted, developed talent.

During his successive 10-day deals, Johnson averaged 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.2 assists over six games. The athletic 6-foot-4 guard is averaging 18.9 minutes per game for a Heat roster that remains without Dwyane Wade.

Johnson had several breakthrough moments in his 10-day stints – including 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks in a road win over Boston on Feb. 1, and an 18-point performance against San Antonio on Friday.

Averaging 18.5 points, 4.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds for Sioux Falls in the D-League, Johnson was signed away by the Heat before the January Showcase in Santa Cruz.

Johnson played four collegiate seasons at Fresno State. He scored 18.9 points a night in 35 games as a senior.

Mike Efevberha Receives Interest To Join NBA System Of Kings, 76ers Through D-League

Feb 1, 2015 3:41 PM

With the conclusion of a consecutive strong season in China, guard Mike Efevberha is receiving interest from the Sacramento Kings and Philadelphia 76ers to integrate his rights into their NBA system via the D-League, a league source told RealGM.

Efevberha finished his season with Sichuan in the Chinese Basketball Association, scoring 42.4 points and grabbing 9.6 rebounds over the last five games. For the season, he averaged 27.8 points on 51 percent shooting from two-point range.

The Kings’ D-League affiliate is Reno while the 76ers operate Delaware.

With the expiration of his rights with Iowa, Efevberha is free to choose a new team based upon which NBA system will suit his slashing and cutting skill set. In the 2011-12 season with the Iowa Energy, he averaged 19.8 points and 48 percent shooting.

Efevberha had been tied to the Iowa franchise until now, freeing the 30-year-old to incorporate himself into another affiliate as a precursor to a potential call up. Efevberha, 6-foot-4, went unselected in the 2006 NBA Draft out of Cal State Northridge.
