Stephen Curry Expects Finals MVP Narrative To Take Life

May 31, 2018 11:35 AM

Stephen Curry has won the regular season MVP award twice but has yet to win a Finals MVP. Andre Iguodala won the award in 2015 while Kevin Durant won it in 2017.

"It took to the second question of my first media availability, so I'm pretty sure that narrative's going to take life, as it has since 2015," Curry said. "But it doesn't make or break my career or whatever you want to say looking back. If we win this championship and I don't win Finals MVP, I'm going to be smiling just as wide and just as big."

Curry said the Finals MVP-void narrative isn't coming from his inner circle.

"Not even the people close to me," he said. "That's kind of the nature of the beast being on this stage four times in a row. You've always got to look at what you don't have. There is always that thing about society always looking at can you attain more and more and more."

"I can guarantee you that Steph is not up late thinking about winning the Finals MVP," Draymond Green told ESPN. "We're all trying to win another championship. If he gets [the award], he gets it. But that's not what he, or anybody else on this team, is playing for."

Curry realizes he has to be comfortable accepting criticisms.

"That's fine. It's part of the beast," he said. "It's part of my motivation to try to get back to this stage because I want more championships. But I've never really highlighted the individual type -- even before my regular-season MVPs, I've never even really attacked it as if that was the goal, per se. Like I said, my values around how I play, good things usually happen for me and my team if I'm in that type of mindset.

"... But I'm going to play aggressively, confidently with that right energy and motivation to help my team win. And usually when I'm in that mindset, good things happen. Whether that means it's a Finals MVP or not, who cares, but I'm going to be playing like it for sure."

Andre Iguodala Ruled Out For Game 7

May 28, 2018 7:09 PM

Andre Iguodala has been ruled out for Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals as he continues to battle a left lateral leg contusion.

"He's frustrated," Steve Kerr said. "He's totally frustrated. If he could play, he would play. But his body has not responded to this point."

Iguodala was injured in Game 3 when he banged knees with James Harden.

The Warriors have a thin wing rotation as they have continued to have an excess of centers.

Steve Kerr Thought Warriors Had Breakthrough In Game 5 Loss

May 27, 2018 11:19 AM

Steve Kerr entered Game 6 confident of the Warriors' chances due to things he saw his team figure out in their Game 5 loss.

“No, I truly felt something coming,” Kerr said. “I thought we had a breakthrough last game, a couple things offensively. Nothing I want to mention. But I thought we had a couple breakthroughs that were going to lead to this game.

“What I didn’t see coming was the horrific defense we started the game with. Oh my God, we let (Trevor) Ariza get wide open. I made a mistake — at one point I was yelling to David West while play was going on, he looked over at me, (James) Harden hit a 3.

“We were out of sorts. All of us — players and the coaching staff — I thought. Early on, we couldn’t believe what we were seeing. But we just stuck with it. Our guys were great. I just think getting it to 10 at halftime was a really big deal. Because 10 for us is nothing. It’s a couple possessions. Especially here. And sure enough, 8-0 run to start the third quarter, we’re right back in it.”

The Warriors again began to move the ball, cut and screen while getting out in transition.

“Yeah, we’ve been trying to get back to being us all series,” Kerr said. “I think Houston has done a great job of defending us, switching everything. They’ve built a great roster to do what they’re doing. They’ve got size and strength at every position. Sometimes, you kind of have to figure it out in terms of the ball movement.

“A lot of this stuff is different for us, because of the switching 1 through 5. So I think we’ve been trying to get more and more movement and mix in the KD isos against the mismatches. Tonight, obviously, we did a better job of finding the balance.”

Love was experiencing concussion-like symptoms after his collision with Jayson Tatum in the first quarter of Friday's game.

Tyronn Lue initially stated during a conference call that Love was in the concussion protocol. He then backtracked after further questioning to say that Love was still being evaluated and that he didn't know about the protocol process or whether Love would go into it.

The Cavaliers are minus-20 with Love in the game but plus-18 when he's off.
