Tom Thibodeau: Immanuel Quickley Will Have 'Significant Role' Even If He Doesn't Start

Jan 30, 2021 1:36 PM

Tom Thibodeau said that Immanuel Quickley will continue to have an important role on the team whether or not he starts for the New York Knicks.

"Because someone doesn’t start, that’s really not that important to me ... we’re always looking at different lineups and what works best and how guys complement each other. So, he’s going to have a significant role. But we’re going to need everyone," said Thibodeau following the Knicks' 102-81 win over the Cavs on Friday night.

Quickley finished the game with 25 points and 5 rebounds in just under 25 minutes.

Quickley added that he's focused on helping the team win while coming off the bench.

“When I come into the game, just giving energy, playing my game which is playing hard, being unselfish, being aggressive when I have to, playing defense and really just doing whatever the team needs me to do to get wins."

It is not clear whether the Bulls will listen to offers for LaVine, who can be a free agent in 2022.

The Knicks have five first-round picks over the next three drafts to offer in a potential deal.

This season's trade deadline is March 25th.

Tom Thibodeau On Potentially Starting Immanuel Quickley: 'We're Still Evaluating'

Jan 16, 2021 5:29 PM

Tom Thibodeau said he was still in the process of evaluating whether to insert Immanuel Quickley into the New York Knicks starting lineup.

"We’re working guys back that were out so we’re not into a rhythm yet. We’re still evaluating. So we’ll keep evaluating, we’ll keep working to improve and then we’ll find the best combinations to go forward with.

"But we’re constantly evaluating and talking about who plays well with whom. And if something can help the team, we’ll do it," said Thibodeau.

Quickly had 23 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the Knicks loss to the Cavs on Friday night.

Thibodeau added that "everything's on the table" in terms of shuffling the starting lineup.

Knicks, Cavaliers, Mavericks Interested In Signing Talen Horton-Tucker

Jan 12, 2021 10:41 AM

Talen Horton-Tucker is expected to receive interest from "multiple teams" in free agency with the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks specifically mentioned.

The Lakers can give Horton-Tucker a contract starting around $10.5 million while rival teams will be limited by the mid-level exception starting at approximately $9 million. A quirk in the cap, however, can allow for a third-year balloon payment worth as much as the maximum salary with a raise in the fourth. A rival team could pay Horton-Tucker $9 million in the first year, $10 million in the second year then jump to more than $32 million in the third year and $32 million in the fourth. The Lakers could match the deal.

“The way the rules are, I don’t see the Lakers letting him go,” one general manager told Heavy.com. “But teams can make this a more difficult decision for the Lakers than they’d like. Teams that have a lot of cap space and are looking to gamble on a young guy, why not put your money into him? The upside is obvious.”
