Knicks Exercise Team Option For Mitchell Robinson, Waive Norvel Pelle

Jul 31, 2021 6:59 PM

The New York Knicks have exercised their 2021-22 team option for center Mitchell Robinson. Robinson will now be on the Knicks books for $1.8 million.

New York and Robinson still have lots of contract options moving forward. If Robinson simply plays out this contract, he'll be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2022. New York could also reach an extension of up to four years, worth as much as $51 million with their young center. That extension would start with the 2022-23.

The Knicks and Robinson can also use some of New York's cap space this year in a renegotiation and extension. This would allow the Knicks to bump Robinson's salary for this season, while adding on some additional years.

The 23-year-old Robinson continues to show promise, but missed over half of last season due to injuries. When healthy, he's shown he can be an elite finisher, shot-blocker and a very good rebounder.

New York also waived center Norvel Pelle. This move was expected and will free up $1.7 million in cap space for the Knicks.

Kings To Receive Competition On Richaun Holmes From Mavs, Knicks, Raptors

Jul 31, 2021 3:43 PM

While Richaun Holmes is ultimately expected to re-sign with the Sacramento Kings in free agency, he is expected to receive interest from a number of other teams.

The Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors have interest in Holmes.

Holmes was also expected to receive interest from the Charlotte Hornets, but their trade for Mason Plumlee and selection of Kai Jones in the draft has seemingly taken them off the board for a center.

Holmes averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 29.2 minutes this past season with the Kings.

Jul 30, 2021 11:01 AM

Spencer Dinwiddie is expected to receive interest in free agency from the Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors, sources tell The Athletic.

The Wizards entered the picture for Dinwiddie after trading Russell Westbrook to the Los Angeles Lakers. Brooklyn, however, would need to agree to a sign-and-trade and would seek more than Montrezl Harrell and Kyle Kuzma for their cooperation.

Dinwiddie averaged 20.6 points per game during the 19-20 but missed most of last season with a torn ACL.

The New York Knicks are considering a push to sign Spencer Dinwiddie in free agency, but will also pursue Evan Fournier and Kyle Lowry.

The Knicks plan on offering Lowry a two-year contract in the $20 million to $30 million per year range.

Dinwiddie declined his player option for $12.3 million with the Brooklyn Nets. Dinwiddie has also been linked with the New Orleans Pelicans, Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. Dinwiddie will seek $25 million per season in free agency.

Kyle Lowry Seeking Three-Year, $90M Deal

Jul 27, 2021 1:52 PM

Kyle Lowry is seeking a three-year, $90 million contract in free agency, sources tell Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia inquirer.

The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat are expected to pursue Lowry in free agency. The 76ers, Heat and Lakers sought a trade for Lowry at last season's deadline and he then sought a two-year extension worth at least $25 million per year.

The 76ers and Lakers would need to acquire Lowry via a sign-and-trade deal. Ben Simmons makes $33 million next season, which would help the 76ers and Toronto Raptors facilitate a deal.

“If there’s a sign-and-trade [with the Sixers] that can be done that can get him there, and he gets $25 to $30 million, he will consider it,” a source said.

The Knicks are believed to be preparing a two-year deal between $20 million and $30 million per season.

Heat, Kings, Knicks, Rockets, 76ers 'Most Aggressive' In Pursuing Damian Lillard Trade

Jul 20, 2021 2:29 PM

The Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have recently been the "most aggressive suitors" for a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers for Damian Lillard.

Lillard has said he expects to remain with the Blazers next season, but he has become clear in his desire for more urgency in their efforts to contend for a title.

Should Portland eventually decide to trade Lillard, executives in the NBA expect the Blazers to receive a return for Lillard comparable to what the Brooklyn Nets sent the Rockets for Harden. Lillard is signed for four more seasons at $176 million total.
