Ross Wants To Stay With Grizzles

Mar 30, 2009 5:01 PM

Quinton Ross could be an attractive free agent this summer because of his abilities on both ends of the floor, but he is already saying he wants to stay in Memphis.

"I like it here. I would like to come back," Ross said recently. "You never know how things go. I'm just hoping I can end this season the right way, and we'll see how it goes."

Ross will become an unrestricted free agent after this season, just his fifth in the NBA.

"He's improved his stock, but he's improved his game," Grizzles coach Lionel Hollins said. "Since he's been here, he's gained more confidence. He's putting the ball on the floor more and looking for his shot when it's there. Every now and then he'll put the ball on the floor and seek a shot.

"In order to play in the NBA, you can play a role, but you have to be a basketball player first. And Quinton is starting to do that. His defense is still good. I just like having him around."

One of the top priorities for the Grizzles this offseason will be to sign forward Rudy Gay to a contract extension.

Gay has made it known that he'd prefer to remain in Memphis for the long haul.

"As a player and a person, I want to be set going into next season," Gay said. "I want to be comfortable and work on trying to be an All-Star. So yeah, (an extension) is important to me."

Gay, who is putting the finishing touches on a strong third season, will become eligible to negotiate an extension beginning on July 1.

If no extension is reached, Gay would become a restricted free agent in summer 2010.

DA: No Charges Against Grizzlies' Jaric

Mar 14, 2009 2:40 AM

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia District Attorney's office has announced that the will not be investigating Memphis guard Marko Jaric, who was accused of sexual assault by a Philadelphia woman when the team visited the city for a game Feb. 11.

"The allegations lack prosecutorial merit," said Cathie Abookire, director of communications for the District Attorney's office.

"Persons in Marko's position are often the target of malicious statements and it is not unusual for the police to be asked to investigate," Castor said in a statement. "However, these allegations were proved to be completely false, and while Marko is extremely unsettled by these accusations, he is happy that the law enforcement authorities have cleared him of any criminal conduct and the issue can now be put to rest."

A Grizzlies spokesman told the Memphis Commercial Appeal Thursday night that the team was aware of the investigation. The paper also reported that a few days after playing with Grizzlies against the Sixers on Feb. 11, Jaric married longtime girlfriend and Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima during the NBA's All-Star Weekend.

Hollins: Grizzles Are Still Working Hard

Mar 4, 2009 4:58 PM

The Grizzles have lost seven consecutive games, but head coach Lionel Hollins says that the team is still working hard.

"The spirit is still there," Hollins said. "It's much better than when I took over. There's different phases and steps you go through. When I came, the spirit was real low. We got the spirit up. Now we're going through adversity and they have to learn to deal with that. They have to learn how to keep working no matter what the situation is."

Hakim Warrick concurred with his coach, defending against the notion that the team has quit on the season.

"We're definitely not quitting," Warrick said. "We'll definitely continue to compete and not quit. The whole atmosphere has changed, and we're doing a lot more towards becoming a winning team. That's something that starts in practice. We've stepped it up a notch in terms of putting work in."

Memphis is 4-11 under Hollins, and 15-44 on the season.
