Source: Lee Leaving For Grizzlies Or Thunder

Jun 30, 2009 9:30 PM

A source told Ken Berger that he believes David Lee's days as with the Knicks are over.

Agent Mark Bartelstein will reportedly have Lee sign an offer sheet with the Grizzlies or Thunder that the Knicks will not be willing to match.

"It's a tough loss for New York, but they don't want to screw up their 2010 plan," the source said.

Grizzlies Looking To Add Frontcourt Muscle

Jun 30, 2009 4:15 PM

The Grizzlies have completed their shopping list heading into the start of free agency on Wednesday.

Memphis is looking for a bruising power forward and a backup point guard.

"We're going to try to continue to try to get a player or two that will make us look better," team owner Michael Heisley said. "And I'm sure somebody will say that you could have gotten this guy, but you didn't do it because you didn't spend the money. ... But in three years, if we haven't gotten a heck of a lot better, I'll pay the price."

The Grizzlies are expected to show interest in Paul Millsap and David Lee.

Memphis Extends Qualifying Offers To Warrick, Navarro

Jun 29, 2009 6:28 PM

The Memphis Grizzlies have made qualifying offers to restricted free agents Hakim Warrick and Juan Carlos Navarro, club General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today.

Warrick, the Grizzlies? longest-tenured and last remaining player from the club?s most-recent playoff appearance in 2006, averaged 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds in 82 games last season.  The 6-9, 219-pound forward has averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in 307 games through four NBA seasons, all with the Grizzlies, who originally selected him with the 19th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft.

In his only NBA season, Navarro averaged 10.9 points and 2.2 assists in 82 games and was named to the 2007-08 NBA All-Rookie Second Team.  After his rookie season, the 6-3, 170-pound guard signed with his former Spanish club F.C. Barcelona.  Memphis retains the right to match any future offer should he decide to return to the NBA.

Memphis Received Many Offers For 2nd Pick

Jun 27, 2009 9:06 AM

Sources confirmed to the Memphis Commercial Appeal on Friday that the Grizzlies received a number of offers for the second overall pick.

Ultimately, Memphis opted to keep the pick and used it on Connecticut center Hasheem Thabeet.

The Suns offered Amare Stoudemire for Rudy Gay and the second overall pick.

The Celtics offered a package that included Kendrick Perkins for the No. 2 pick, and also inquired about the 36th selection.

The Heat were willing to part ways with Michael Beasley, last year's second pick, for this year's No. 2 selection.

The Rockets made one offer involving Tracy McGrady, and another that included Shane Battier and Carl Landry, but they wanted Gay in the deal as well.

The Cavaliers offered Daniel Gibson and JJ Hickson, the Bobcats put Emeka Okafor and Nazr Mohammed on the block, the Mavericks offered Josh Howard and the Thunder made a play involving Nick Collison.

Sources: Sterling Nixed Randolph Swap With Griz

Jun 27, 2009 8:56 AM

The Grizzlies and Clippers agreed in principle to a trade involving Zach Randolph, but Los Angeles owner Donald Sterling nixed the deal.

During Thursday night's NBA Draft, the two clubs worked out a deal centered around Randolph and Darko Milicic. Memphis guard Greg Buckner would have also been part of the trade.

After Sterling stopped the deal, the Grizzlies traded Milicic to the Knicks for Quentin Richardson.

Offers Grizzlies Received For Pick Were 'Laughable'

Jun 26, 2009 7:27 AM

The Grizzlies received a number of offers for the second overall pick, but opted to use it on Hasheem Thabeet.

"There weren't a lot of good offers out there. Some of them were laughable," said Memphis coach Lionel Hollins.

Hollins added that the team didn't think Ricky Rubio was a good fit, saying "we just didn't feel like Rubio was the guy for us."

Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace told the Memphis Commercial Appeal that the team settled on Thabeet roughly an hour before the draft on Thursday night.

Darko Sent To New York For Richardson

Jun 25, 2009 11:19 PM

The New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Donnie Walsh announced Thursday night that center Darko Milicic has been acquired from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for guard/forward Quentin Richardson and cash considerations.

?When building a team, it is invaluable to have a skilled big man such as Darko,? Walsh said. ?He is the type of player with strong high-post play that will complement Eddy Curry?s low-post game. He will thrive in Coach D?Antoni?s system.

?It is very tough to lose such a great veteran like Quentin who has meant so much to this team,? Walsh added. ?We thank him for all of his efforts over the past four seasons.?

Visa Issue Kept Thabeet From Memphis Workout

Jun 24, 2009 7:22 PM

A big deal has been made over Hasheem Thabeet's missed workouts with the Grizzlies, but an expired Visa may have played a role.

Thabeet, who played at Connecticut for three seasons, is rumored to want to avoid Memphis, who has the second overall pick in Thursday night's NBA Draft.

On Wednesday afternoon, RealGM watched Thabeet struggle to answer a rather simple question from Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.com.

"I couldn't reschedule [the workout with Memphis] because the schedule was kind of, you know, I couldn't work out like I was supposed to, like everybody else because I hyper-extended my shoulder working out," Thabeet said after struggling with what to say for several moments.

"And then, later on, when I was scheduled to go to Memphis we found out that my Visa expired, so I had to get to New York as soon as possible to get that done on Monday morning. Otherwise, I would have been deported."

Thabeet then denied rumors that he doesn't want to play for the Grizzlies.

"That's not accurate at all," the 7'3" center said.

Report: Darko Could Be With Knicks By End Of Week

Jun 24, 2009 12:55 PM

The Grizzlies have engaged in advanced discussions with the Knicks that will Darko Milicic in New York by week's end, unless Memphis winds up needing Milicic's expiring contract in another draft-related trade.

Sources say that the proposed swap would send Milicic to the Knicks for Quentin Richardson and cash. Milicic is scheduled to earn $7.5 million next season in the final year of a three-year deal he received from the Griz in 2007; Richardson has a player option for next season at $8.7 million.
